Yep - the government is consistently failing to make the case as to why it is investing more in defence and how the changing geopolitical system plus that whole war going on means it is increasingly needed
Utterly surreal that a key part of the pre Budget narrative from the government hasn’t been ‘Russian planes keep buzzing the Essex coast, US support for NATO is looking shaky, and thanks to the Tories our army fits in Old Trafford - that’s why we need to raise taxes’.

'Ahead of the autumn budget on 26 November, Universities UK (UUK) has calculated that funding per student for teaching in 2025-26 is at 64 per cent of the level it was in 2015-16.' 1/3

When my wife left me it cured me of any fantasy that being "Left" was desirable
Maybe this is one problem that can be traced back to Starmer - as a 60something relative poltiical novice he is not well equipped to understand this problem, and he surrounds himself with Blair era people who also built their mental models of politics in an earlier era. In which case, hard to fix.

Another avoidable mess the Starmer government has ended up in. Incapable of showing solidarity with trans people, they've now ended up in Crazy Town with the transphobes with no easy way out.
I suspect they're delaying it because its mental and unworkable - and is clearly aimed at the exclusion of trans, and gender conforming people, from society.

The inevitable pivot back to 'labour is the only progressive choice' comms at the next GE is going to be very hard. People don't forget this stuff being the only thing they ever hear about what the government is doing.

Properly insane and offensive policy from Shabana Mahmood in its own right but why is the government continuing to bring up this issue when its supposedly got loads of other stuff on the agenda?

Thinking about my own father, who arrived in 1946 with the Free Polish Army - when would Labour have sent him back to communist Poland? How could he have done anything to build a life and have children in the UK if he had had to beg to stay every two years? Disgusting. www.bbc.com/news/article...

Basically saying "if you do crime for me, I won't only pardon you--I'll give you millions of dollars of public money." Truly unprecedented level of corruption

A selection of fury from Labour MPs, ministers and advisors - “This is batshit crazy” “they are f-ing deluded” “did we watch the Tories and think, let’s have a bit of that?” “why are you slagging off your main rival and then putting him on the morning round to show everyone how much better he is”
