Irish Kiwi living in Ōtautahi. Nerdy lefty AuDHD; owns many fountain pens, hammocks, and boxes of craft supplies. Sometimes uses them.

Ordained minister of the Universal Life Church purely for the gender-neutral title of Reverend.
When will idiot people learn to properly tether their trampolines to the ground. Every time there are high winds somebody's tramp causes damage to somebody else's property 😒

I got to the Wildlife Photographer 2025 exhibition in Christchurch today and it was an absolute joy. I'm grateful to the friend who suggested it since I didn't even know it was on! Really beautiful and impressive (and often depressing) photos.

My cat Rainbow likes to sit in this basket in my bathroom. My daughter painted a portrait of Rainbow in the basket. I hung it in the bathroom, naturally. Then I got a photo of Rainbow sitting in the basket underneath the painting.

i think if you want to have those disgusting LED headlights on your car, you should have to do a test where they blast you point blank with your own headlights and then you have 15 seconds to successfully complete some sort of vision-based task, and if you can't do it they push your car off a cliff

I am quite stressed at the moment for multiple reasons, and this has led to a very expensive and unnecessary television upgrade purchase, but on the plus side the screensaver showing my NZ photos on a top quality screen brings me much joy. Music on, book in lap, and stunning scenery? Oh go on then.

the highs and lows of social media encapsulated in a single post.
Was researching an old theatre (boxing venue) in Hull.

Someone on a FB heritage page, under a photo: 'Think I used to go to pantomimes there as a kid!'

A wit replies: 'Oh no you didn't!'

The original poster: 'Is it a different building then?'

You pretty much *do* have to try Fergburger, just to see if they live up to the hype or not.

I'm the first to admit that I have a sock-buying problem, but I was delighted to discover that my new walking socks and new tramping trousers are perfectly colour coordinated.

I tested it properly today and it was exactly on 40%. Maybe it was my home pours that were to blame 😁
Some of my DIY liquor is now contributing to a lovely relaxing Saturday night, with a new book to read and Dave Gahan & Soulsavers coming out of the speakers. It passes the taste test although I think I should check the alcohol content properly tomorrow as I feel quite squiffy 😂
My still has been busy this weekend. That's about 5 litres of 95% ABV just looking for an excuse to party 🥳

I am finally replacing my old 2019 telly which has fairly awful picture quality, and it's a real sign of the times that the first thing I'm doing, before the new one even arrives, is searching "how do I minimise Samsung's persistent and intrusive advertising?" because I know I'll need to do that 🙄

When I moved to NZ in 2007 I didn't really think about who I'd meet here but I suppose I expected it to be mostly Kiwis. It has been a nice surprise to find myself surrounded by Kiwi friends but also all kinds of internationals!

AI is *so* unreliable. I don't know why I keep trying. I asked Anthropic Claude to help me come up with some ideas for my upcoming NZ road trip and it confidently suggested a stay at the Kura Tawhiti DOC campsite and told me all about it. The only problem? The campsite is an AI hallucination.

this thing hides posts it judges as ‘rude’, by some US standard. Thereby silencing most of the conversations in Ireland and Scotland, at least.
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.

Here's how to turn it off.
