Independent bookstores are donating to food banks and organizations that help with food insecurity.

And everyone is safer and happier if you go in with knowledge, an understanding of your own ethical boundaries, and a very firm consent-based attitude.

So much of what I fear and resent about the current generation of AI is the total trampling of consent.

In one of the projects I'm working on, I talked about my attitude about AI and its place in writing as "harm reduction" and I am going to be thinking about that for a bit.

Like when I teach teens about sexual activity - sexuality is fine! But there are ways that it can be harmful.

Japan has just opened its first osmotic power plant ๐ŸŒŠโšก

This works by mixing fresh & salt water across a membrane, creating pressure that drives a turbine to make electricity.

This site will generate 880,000 kWh a year...while helping run a desalination plant providing fresh water to the city ๐Ÿ‘
Japan has opened its first osmotic power plant โ€“ so what is it and how does it work?
The site in Fukuoka is only the second power plant of its type in the world, harnessing the power of osmosis to run a desalination plant in the city

I listened to a podcast this morning where they repeatedly said โ€œyou canโ€™t think without writingโ€ and just to nip that one in the budโ€ฆ

Thatโ€™s wrong (there are many illiterate people and they all think) and also dumb (Socrates was famously both illiterate and had thoughts.)

I'm excited to speak at @xoruby.com in New Orleans on Sept. 20.

I've had to learn The Dark Arts of designing for dark mode, and let me tell you: even as a seasoned designer and certified color nerd, it can be surprisingly unintuitive.

Come learn all my secrets!
