@leenyburger.bsky.social I took action after your talk and in setting up my first workflow accidentally emailed 125 people. Whoops!

Even though the email went out sooner than I expected I've had 7 of those folks take the action that I had hoped they would.

You have to keep giving money to avoid collapse and if there’s collapse you have to give more money. It’s called the free market.

When I was a bookseller in the late 80s Whitakers sent out a folder each month of microfiche cels with the entire list of UK Books in Print on it. We would swap the months over and send the previous month's to a nearby shop that didn't have a subscription.

And yes, the machine was REALLY cool.
I LOVED the microfiche machine. Secret agent vibes.

a PSA: most nonprofit newsrooms right now are probably participating in the NewsMatch program RIGHT NOW. That’s a program funded by a few foundations that “matches” your end-of-year donation.

If you set up $10 monthly, that literally unlocks $120 from NewsMatch.

So who could you support?
i promise i don’t mean to high horse this but if you’re thinking about giving lizza ten bucks there are a lot of good independent journalists whose work you could subscribe to for a month instead

If you’re a journalist who’s still on Twitter, from now on in your writing you have to replace “the American people want” with “troll bots in Eastern Europe demand”

Being there makes your judgment suspect. I don’t care how savvy you think you are, you’re marinating in a disinformation campaign.

The thing about DOGE is it accomplished neither its ostensible nor actual goals but did manage to cause a couple of holocausts worth of deaths internationally.

And the media finds none of those three things particularly notable.
It remains insane to me that DOGE was treated at the time as an impressive shock and awe accomplishment - “you can’t deny he’s getting stuff done!” - and then instantly memory holed by the press once if became clear it was a total failure by every possible standard including Musk’s own
Difficult to overstate how profound a failure DOGE was. Spending in FY2025 was not only than in FY2024 – but higher than it was projected to be when Trump first took office.*

The little bit of spending DOGE cut has already killed hundreds of thousands and will eventually lead to millions of deaths.

11 years ago today, 12 year old Tamir Rice was gunned down by police officers on Cleveland’s west side.

The officer shot him within seconds of arriving at the park he was playing in.

Tamir’s life mattered. It still does. My thoughts are with his family today.

The White House doesn’t offer a plausible legal rationale because the orders are illegal.

Various lawyers wouldn’t sign off on it because the orders are illegal.

Trump flipped out at veterans saying don’t follow illegal orders because he’s giving illegal orders.

Real Occam’s razor situation here.
On the patently unlawful boat strikes

It's hard for USGs to claim ‘mistake of law’ or ‘advice of counsel’ – when they’re firing lawyers who wouldn't sign off on the strikes.

WaPo's new revelations on firings or removals:

1) CIA General Counsel
2) NSC Legal Adviser
3) CIA Mission Center’s lawyer

White House blew past legal concerns in deadly strikes on drug boats
The Trump administration sidestepped skeptical lawyers across national security agencies as it pursued a military campaign against alleged narcotraffickers, officials say.

When @firefox.com claims this is a choice, they are lying. They continue to try to force AI garbage onto people.
Thank you for the feedback David. It's important to note that these features are optional and local models are downloaded if the feature is used.

Skip it entirely if you want. We understand this won't please everyone but we strongly believe in giving people a choice in how they browse.

Flew home on a red eye from SF. Landed in Minneapolis at 6am and got on the road by 7am.

Drove 3 hours and met a Georgian immigrant from NYC trying to get a ride share in rural Wisconsin. His truck broke down towing a car.

Drove him 35 minutes in the opposite direction to the nearest U-Haul.
