My career is listening to people who flee places that get increasingly unsafe. A few months of "wait & see" can make a world of difference for safety & prospects. I've lived under authoritarianism myself.

I've said it before, but it's remarkable how quickly the feds have managed to piss away the seemingly ironclad presumption of candor & credibility they enjoyed with federal judges.

They've lied so shamelessly, flagrantly, & frequently that judges have decided not to be played for fools any more.

Completely detached from reality. Portland is lovely. This weekend I went to the farmer's market downtown and bought peppers for a homemade salsa, went to an art gallery, and had a delicious lunch. Never felt the slightest bit threatened. Never saw any chaos or fires or boarded windows.
