tl;dr: Bluesky began with genuine promise: a new social media platform where users could feel safer, but inconsistent moderation quickly eroded trust.

When systemically marginalized users pushed back, Bluesky’s leadership minimized concerns and began to target them for bans.

Mamdani talking lucidly and passionately about trans rights and history in a video that should frankly shame every politician who has hemmed and hawed and triangulated and said, "Well, but sports..." It's not that hard to tell the truth and stand for what's right. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEvV...

On National Coming Out Day, know that I will always be an ally to you — no matter where you are on your journey.

I know that times may be scary, but you are seen, safe, supported, and loved here in Illinois.

This is a real time-consuming task but that shows us that very few people will do it, so it *will* be read if you do. Please tell them: fund research and universities, prevent firms from using consumer electricity for their data centres, and protect creators from theft.

New polling confirms exactly what you'd expect: Canadians want the federal government to maintain or even expand support for women and 2SLGBTQIA+ people - not slash it.

Let's make sure the Prime Minister knows where Canadians stand: www.momentumcanada.net/budget

As someone living in Quebec but following lots of international anglos, I sometimes get so confused by reposted or quote-posted acronyms. SPD… is it the Drummondville police? Germany’s socialist party? Scotland’s party for democracy? Or some new sexually transmitted disorder..?

The head of Vancouver’s transit agency can sum its ridership recovery in one word: Frequency.

“Running the bus every 30 minutes isn’t going to cut it if you want to grow ridership.“

Many Vancouver 🚌 run every 5min or less, and the SkyTrain runs every 3-4min, via @davidzipper.bsky.social

"One thing to make clear at the outset, when describing antifascist activity, is that the vast majority of it is nonviolent. In fact, antifascism is a defensive posture—it rises as fascism rises, and falls as fascism falls, in a well-documented pattern that has lasted for decades."

Great idea. We need a well-financed public postal service to actually move the books from one place to another though!

This also translates to the context of modern (neo)liberalism’s failures. We should be primarily protesting how immoral her staggering wealth is. Her politics were the method for obtaining that wealth. But liberals in general have a hard time objecting to wealth (« success » here) itself.

My primary identity is as a worker. Therefore I oppose rich people and elites, even if they’re « diverse » elites.

A useful illustration of the limits of liberal identity politics.
It's astounding to see self-described progressives lose their minds over the successes of a Jewish female entrepreneur and intellect in @bariweiss, and a wildly successful Black man in @VanJones68. I guess equity, diversity, and inclusion don't mean as much as they've told us.

Listening to lots of Pet Shop Boys lately. They’re amazing and amazingly gay. I was an OG huge fan from age 10 until around ~1997, when I turned away from them basically because I realized how gay they were and my internalized homophobia won. And I lost 25 years of their work because of it.

It's so incredible how low homicide rates are in Europe. The UK, with a population of 70 million people, had fewer than 600 murders in 2023.
