I think it says a lot about how our attitude to welfare has changed that the Christmas Bonus was brought in by Barbara Castle so that even the poorest families could afford a turkey and a few presents and now removing it would prompt protests and rising it would give the Telegraph an aneurism.
Remember, the UK is a country which has been paying a £10 Christmas bonus to pensioners since the 1970s, and yes, it was £10 in the 1970s and is still £10 today, and no, obviously it would be political suicide to take this increasingly meaningless sum away.

Yknow they very much tried to get me fired from being technician on the throwdown on telly i know they wrote to channel 4 and such and every year were outraged i was still allowed on screen for the crime of being trans

Yeah, the actual principles they have are all oriented around in-group and out-group formation. Members of the in-group can have any sin of theirs excused so long as they do not commit the cardinal transgression of sympathizing with, assisting, or somehow *becoming* one of the out-group.
