I ACTUALLY talked to a REAL LIVE PERSON at my Representative's office about this today (I can't remember the last time I got a staffer and not a machine).

Went to the dentist this morning and now I have a surprise tooth extraction later today!

So, you know, today is cancelled.

(It's not a surprise that this tooth had to go, just a surprise it is happening today. I was hoping to hold onto it for another year or so, but I guess not!)

On the other hand I think it would be very funny to retitle literary fiction light novel style. “Oh No! This Author Stand-In is Unhappily Married”
This attitude is how you end up with light novel titles.

My ARFID child has recently decided that muffins are a safe food. Please tell me about your very favorite muffins, the more unusual the better.

Bonus points if you include a recipe.

If you enjoyed a book(s), here are 10 things you can do to exercise your enormous power as a reader and radically help the author. And every action here is free:

1. Post about the book on your socials, even if you think your following is small. Every single voice matters.

It is once again time for our annual tradition of transporting four teenagers to a town an hour away so my youngest child can have their hyperfixation pizza for their birthday.

Overhearing weird snatches of conversation about races and teenagers at the bagel store that are making me side-eye the table next to me, until I realize the guy is trying to design a d&d campaign for teenagers.

I am about to have eARCs for two books I will ACTUALLY be publishing in the new year!

The Night Sweeps the Mountains Away by Tanvir Ahmed:
historical fantasy in 19th century Afghanistan, monsters, the costs of survival, and what home means

I may have developed feelings about these idiots (affectionate) from this short article and now maybe I need to read the gay hockey books.

Actual BlueSky challenge: post your favorite work of art from fifty years before you were born.

www.wassilykandinsky.net/work-49.php

Real question: were any of you hardcore enough to have a pre-existing favorite? Or did you all, like me, search the year and pick an image from the results.

Barnes & Noble opened a new location basically across the street from a local bookstore here. I took a peek in this week and it was the most soulless bookstore I have ever been in that wasn't in an airport.

Reviews, recommendations, and requesting these books for purchase by your local library.
"I can't afford to support my favorite author right now, I—"

Reviews.

Reviews are free AND they are a gift to authors that can keep on giving (i.e., exposure, marketing, algo boosts, etc.)

Please, give the gift of reviews to your authors this holiday season. It really can make a difference!

Re: last reskeet: If reviews freak you out—and I get it, I ran a bookstore for decades and some of my clerks were *AMAZING* at hand-selling and froze the moment they were handed a shelf-talker cue card—here’s an easy trick for three short sentences that make a useful review:
Okay, because I need to try and re-spark some writing community joy after… *gestures at everything* how about a revisit on a way you can absolutely support authors you love for zero dollars: by dropping a low-stress, three-sentence review somewhere.

It seems like most of the whaling in Moby Dick will take place in southern seas, but something just feels spiritually correct about reading this book while snow is falling outside.

It is the time of year to be absolutely overextended in all directions. I just saw a notification that the meeting I planned to go to tonight is now a potluck with a cash bar? I think I am going to spend that hour with Moby Dick instead.

The Dead Withheld by L.D. Lewis: A Sapphic Paranormal Neo-Noir Review
Neon Hemlock has another hit on its hands with The Dead Withheld by L.D. Lewis. Published in 2025, the sapphic paranormal neo-noir novella follows Desdemona “Dizzy” Carter in her quest to find the murderer of her wife, Lonnie, the Fallen Angels serial killer. Dizzy is a Private investigator and a deadwalker witch, one who can talk to the dead, and she gets a lead on Lonnie’s case for the first time in years. With the help of her dolls, I, II, and III, she travels all over the Vegas-inspired city of San Guin, determined to finally put her past behind her and bring peace to Lonnie’s ghost. The Dead Withheld is an uproarious story of grief and the community that loves us through it all.

My book club's reading prompt for the month is obsession.

Question: is it time for me to finally read Moby Dick?

Secondary, but equally important question: Can I read Moby Dick in 12 days?
