In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

What we might refer to as a "Kavanaugh Stop"
WOW. The lead plaintiff is a Latino man who's been here legally for 24 years. He was grabbed off the street by plainclothes federal agents who didn't even ASK about his status.

He was detained overnight and only released once a supervisor realized he had been illegally arrested.

Congrats to Justiça nos Trilhos on receiving the Gwynne Skinner Human Rights Award! SAGE is so proud to have supported JnT's work (with FIDH!) to seek justice for the community of Piquiá de Baixo, building a new neighborhood safe from pollution from Vale's steel production.

A historic day for the Xinka people, who have engaged in a court-ordered consultation with the gov't on the Escobal mine for 7 years - a process that would not have been as robust but for their leadership. Yesterday, they said no, in part because the state lacks the capacity to manage the risks.
Xinka People Say “No” to the Escobal Mine. The Xinka Indigenous People are telling the Guatemalan government that they say no to a silver mine owned by Pan American Silver. This marks the culmination of a court-mandated consultation process. 🔗 bit.ly/xinka-answer

I am calling for his immediate release by federal law enforcement.

RFK Jr. is very loud and very WRONG about Autism.

1. It’s not a disease
2. There are thousands of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder who pay taxes, have jobs, can use the bathroom on their own, and are thriving in life.

Just a reminder that Trump/DOJ continuing to let Abrego Garcia sit in CECOT is *a crime*. Deprivation of rights under color of law is a crime. Was it an "error" at first? Maybe. But once they were aware of the error, and ordered by a judge to return him, and then refusing, it's willful 1/

1/4. On the White House’s theory, if they abduct you, get you on a helicopter, get to international waters, shoot you in the head, and drop your corpse into the ocean, that is legal, because it is the conduct of foreign affairs.
