One of the things I hear with some younger trans people I know is they feel, "I'm gonna get this surgery, and I'm gonna learn that way of speaking, and I'm gonna be done." You're never done. If you're a straight, cisgender person, you're never done. Things are always happening that have the potential to change you. So all I am today is not who I'm gonna be tomorrow, because of the things that happened to me today and later tonight. People forget that. "Oh, after I transition, I'm gonna be through." Well, good luck with that. 'Cause if you're through, then it's time to leave, you know, and I don't wanna go anywhere yet.
I'm in my seventies. Why didn't I stop? Number one is community. My gurls. I've had moments of thinking about stopping, but I didn't. I made sure I would step back, reju- venate myself, and then got back out there, and that's how you make a way. Our stories are not all the same, but the destination is: to get some place where we have some peace and harmony, and we can be at ease with ourselves and the people around us. You make the best of it all and hope you can help make it a little better for the gurl after you.

I saw the Disney film as a kid, and then got my hands on the book in high school. And yeah, Jonathan Pryce is just fantastic in it. Reading it, though, was so much darker and viscerally gripping.

In retrospect, I think that was probably the best sequence to experience them in.

The trailblazing transgender rights activist Miss Major has passed away at the age of 78.

Miss Major was a lifelong organizer and participant in the ballroom scene. She took part in the 1969 Stonewall Riots and was injured by the police — but she kept fighting.

I am kind of on the opposite end of that spectrum: I love the idea that astromechs are these formidable jack-of-all-trades technician droids, whose default vibe is "cute, humble lil' ambulatory trashcan."

(But I also recognize that it diminishes R2's endearing, scrappy underdog image.)

I knew Columbus was viewed as a villain in his day, but I had no idea just how catastrophic he and subsequent explorers/conquistadors were to the indigenous Americans. The more I learn, the more horrified I am. And the sadder I am that he's sanctified by certain demographics.

Okay, yes, my symbiote did in fact free three planets from Cardassian rule and single-handedly eradicated Quarn dysentery from this quadrant, but we're still not on speaking terms. Last I heard, it was trying to install an eject lever in my torso. So... it's working on that "bringing it forth" part.
