Fwiw unlike many similar situations i think that steam not being dislodged from the top has been largely a function of its competitors failing to make their case BUT the degree to which it's entrenched speaks to a real cultural problem with how gamers add console wars even where therere no consoles

I don’t like being referred to as a Yankee but I’ve realized this is not at all because I’m Southern, but because I specifically resent being associated with traditional New England Protestant culture and its flavorless foods
All people from the U.S. are Yankees. I say this as a person born and raised in The South because pissing off That Specific Kind of Southerner is a moral good.

i take frenzy damage every time i see someone go "well i just use it for the boring stuff". what are you TALKING about? if it's boring or unimportant, why are you putting it in? NPC dialogue is fertile ground for worldbuilding, creating verisimilitude, conveying important information, and hijinks!!
Buy a solo indie dev's game because I want to support them.
