Everyone hates this shit so much. It’s a bipartisan issue. AI sucks. It’s intrusive. It isn’t magical nor is it changing the world other than in the amount of money being wasted on it. Consumers are increasingly offended by its presence
"The most terrible time of the year"

McDonald’s pulls AI-generated Christmas advert in the Netherlands. The advert, titled "the most terrible time of the year," depicts Christmas chaos, with Santa caught in a traffic jam and a present-laden cyclist slipping in the snow

From harm to children & vulnerable adults to systems that discriminate in ways that are not just unethical but actually illegal -- plus all the disemployment of artists by systems trained *on their work* it's crazy to *not* be upset about AI writ large

I say this as someone whose entire job is finding the narrow use cases in which AI is actually useful:

All the fear about AI, all the reluctance to adopt it, is entirely legitimate, and a product of the fact that it's been foisted on the public with no consideration of its negative externalities.
I continue to have no sympathy left for whinging about how the public are rude about AI and feel threatened by it when the biggest players in the AI space have spent years very vocally and constantly *threatening the public*

They've actually done us a favour here by admitting that even with this level of input, work, resource etc THAT was the best they could do...
The company behind the mcdonalds ad:

Imagine taking more time than it would take to do something traditionally. I bet it would take a builder longer to build a house out of jelly instead of brick, because jelly isn't brick.

My late dad had arthritis of the spine.
He had to appeal TWICE for disability benefits.

Had to stop working in his 40s, but he could barely sit up straight let alone stand or walk.

Anyone who criticises disability benefits can come and say it to my face and I'll gladly punch you in yours.
It is not easy to qualify for disability benefits.

The process can take years, is exhausting and dehumanizing.

It’s designed to make people give up and/or die before there’s a payout.

This is why disabled people say they don’t owe you an explanation.

Nobody in their right mind should be considering going to this World Cup (except Canada or Mexico) - and frankly should be swerving America until it's under new management too.

I wish the UK had the balls to do this.

Imperfect, hard to enforce, blah blah blah.
Still way better than the current global approach of 'acknowledging it does harm, doing nothing about it'

Kids and phones is our generation's 'smoking on planes', I'm convinced of it.

I would have said Rod Liddle but I don't think he actually supports us, I'm sure he switched his allegiance to Millwall as some sort of edge-Lord psychological need.

So it's ineffectual Conservative Deputy Chairman & Shadow Policing Minister "Thumbs Up" Matt Vickers -
