I expect every single law enforcement officer of any kind to be willing to die rather than risk killing a person unnecessarily.

Anyone who does not like that tradeoff should not seek to carry a gun on behalf of the government.

It's really that simple.

Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics
Let us all have the courage displayed by the residents of Minneapolis.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

A U.S. president cannot be held accountable. Therefore, a U.S. president must never make a policy decision.

People are saying “we gotta be more skeptical of the ex-military guys” when the simpler and more effective rubric is to immediately forget about anyone who says something positive about Josh Hawley. You will never fail with this.

Do any of you nerds have a good resource or reference on the application of dialectical theories?

If, for example, you (theoretically) found yourself wanting to try to reconcile two large and essentially opposed bodies of scientific thought, and wanted a framework to guide the process...

So am I reading this court decision correctly? We now have 50 micronations with their own laws interpreting the U.S. Constitution wholly separate from one another? But there's one guy with private law enforcement who is immune from all punishment who can do whatever he wants in those 50 states?

For decades the NRA and other gun nuts told us that their guns were to protect us all from a tyrannical government. So a tyrannical government is here, they are all sitting on their asses, and the people who want gun control have taken to the streets to defy the tyrannical government instead.

Food for hungry kids is *not* waste, fraud, or abuse.

A $45 military parade for a draft dodging felon *is* waste, fraud, and abuse.

Paying the National Guard to attack US citizens *is* waste, fraud, and abuse.

Every time they say “we can’t afford that,” remember: they could afford armored tanks, a dictators birthday parade, and enough tear gas to choke a city. They just don’t want you fed, safe, or alive.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

I’m sure it’s been commented upon but everything takes me so much more time to accomplish now than it did even seven years ago.

The information ecosystem has been sufficiently trashed to the point that every basic task of writing and publishing takes twice as long to complete. And I’m PRIVILEGED.

You’ve got it wrong - a fourth F-18 has not been lost, that’s a misreading of a headline that included a reference to the USS Truman colliding and an F18 falling off the Truman and one failing to land on the Truman and one shot down by the USS Gettysburg which is technically on our side. /1
