🧵 This is an extraordinary piece on Channel-crossing refugees, or #SmallBoats as we dub it. Really extraordinary.

One of the hotel providers made 180 million in profits while abandoning basic care. Labour could have chosen to go after these corrupt businessmen instead of the random people in these so-called hotels that never had any say in where they could live in the first place.

Starmer went from winning a sizeable majority to becoming one of the most unpopular PMs in history in just 15 months. Instead of learning anything in that time period, all the Labour leadership has done is double down on cruel, unnecessary and - again - deeply unpopular policies.

They chose instead to go after trans ppl, to cut benefits, to demonise migrants, to appease the Far Right - things that no one who voted Labour voted for.

Labour decided that what they had to do is (fail to) defeat Reform when they actually had to reward the anti-Tory vote with non-Tory policies.

It's often been the case on #BBCQT that plain lies go unchallenged bcs of who is chosen to be on that panel. The anti-immigration discourse only works because of that. None of the real issues that are brought up are tackled - let alone solved - through an anti-immigration politics.

As a lifelong hate-watcher of #BBCQT it's been incredible to see the tone shift in last night's prog with @zackpolanski.bsky.social on. It should have never been that hard to call for common sense - and actually popular - policies. Someone is actually doing it.

Mental health doesn't take a day off.

The Green Party is committed to ensuring mental health and physical health care are equally prioritised.

That means funding major improvements in mental health care - so that all of us can access the support we need, when we need it.

The British by Poet Mr #BenjaminZephaniah
Home

English Poets

The British by Benjamin Zephaniah

"Take some Picts, Celts and Silures And let them settle, Then overrun them with Roman conquerors.

Remove the Romans after approximately 400 years Add lots of Norman French to some Angles, Saxons, Jutes and Vikings, then stir vigorously.

Mix some hot Chileans, cool Jamaicans, Dominicans, Trinidadians and Bajans with some Ethiopians, Chinese, Vietnamese and Sudanese.

Then take a blend of Somalians, Sri Lankans, Nigerians And Pakistanis, Combine with some Guyanese And turn up the heat.

Sprinkle some fresh Indians, Malaysians, Bosnians, Iraqis and Bangladeshis together with some Afghans, Spanish, Turkish, Kurdish, Japanese And Palestinians Then add to the melting pot.

Leave the ingredients to simmer.

As they mix and blend allow their languages to flourish Binding them together with English.

Allow time to be cool.

Add some unity, understanding, and respect for the future, Serve with justice And enjoy.

Note: All the ingredients are equally important. Treating one ingredient better than another will leave a bitter unpleasant taste.

Warning: An unequal spread of justice will damage the people and cause pain. Give justice and equality to all."

You actually don’t have to hand it to Donald Trump. You don’t have to give him credit for anything. He’s a horrible human being who has never known a day of suffering in his life. Nor does he care an ounce about the suffering of anybody else. Hope that helps.

Our next keynote talk at #CMHP25 is from Dr Marc Williams @clinpsy-marc.bsky.social who is going to explore:

Climate Distress, Coping, and the Role of Professionals in a Rapidly Warming World.

A timely reminder that climate change is a mental health issue as well as an environmental one.

Kemi Badenoch, "I want to stop people with ADHD getting Motability cars."

Well you don't need to, because nobody gets a Motability Car for ADHD.

You need mobility issues, which some people with ADHD also have.

No. What the UK govt has been contributing to is the extermination of the Palestinian people.

It is certainly an arguable point for the law. Though the legal principles ought to be identical, I am certain the Shadow Justice Secretary would surely not attend court to show solidarity for somebody who burned a Bible, the Talmud, a novel, a Remembrance poppy, Union Jack - but will for the Quran

Today is #WorldHomelessDay.

Young refugees in the UK are facing a growing risk of homelessness. A sudden policy change has cut their move-on period from 56 days to just 28 — slashing the time they have to find housing, apply for Universal Credit, open a bank account, and access support.

You shouldn't only care about the rights of disabled people because it may be you one day.

You should care because it's the right thing to do, for other humans who deserve life, love, and support.

None of us are safe in a world where basic norms in respect of the sanctity of human life are blithely disregarded. Those norms must be enforced, and enforced visibly. There must be political and legal consequences for every politician who made the genocide possible. The alternative is unthinkable.

I'm glad the government will not introduce employment tribunal fees, but it's not true that "everyone, no matter their income" can get "access to justice" under the current system.

The barriers are endless & if you overcome them & win, you still might not even get the money you are owed
