Happy 26th anniversary to the time my brother tried to convince me that his Christmas present to me would be a CD called Songs In The Key Of Jar Jar: Jar Jar Binks Sings 15 Great American Pop Standards.

I am officially "texting my brother a week before Christmas to make sure I didn't forget and buy him the same gift two years in a row" years old.

Just referred to having a runny nose as "getting nose zoomies," so yeah, I'm doing great on this last day of preschool before winter break.

It's 2025, and I'm still thinking about how disappointed I'd be if someone told me a song would Change My Life and then played me "New Slang."

I want to do this but don't want to organize alone (99% of my life is being in charge of stuff, particularly community building, and I want to be mindful of not taking on too much more). Any other Chicago friends want to work together?

Opening night of Blair Witch in Frederick, MD.

A screening of Holy Grail with a post-show talk by Terry Jones...who told us he hadn't planned on rewatching the movie, but we all sounded like we were having so much fun that he'd slipped into the audience midway thru to watch it with us.
my favorite was an opening night screening of rogue one where they started to play Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them instead! the outcry was tremendous! I and the friend who was at the screening with me still quote “more like Rogue Done With These Beasts!” to each other
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.

In our neck of Chicago, there exists an old Taco Bell that was bought by bankruptcy attorney Peter Francis Geraci. I was worried when he started building an addition, but I’m happy to say that he is preserving the integrity of the Mission Revival style of the old Taco Bell! #chicago

What is your family's weirdest beloved holiday tradition? Mine may very well be the annual hanging of this ornament: a Little Caesar's coupon that expired in January of 1990.

Like, I know my Christmas megamix has some...variety, but I was not prepared in the shower this morning to go from the glorious finale of Handel's Messiah straight into the glorious theme from Santa Claus Conquers The Martians.

Does everything need a Wrapped-style recap now? I just got an email from Torrid inviting me to reminisce about my 2025 purchases. Man, remember that time in March when I bought some bras? It was so fun. #neverforget

Bartender, chatting about the name of the beer referenced on his shirt: "Yeah, the brewer's mom is a history professor, so he knows all kinds of weird stuff."

Me, a person whose mom was a history professor, and who knows all kinds of weird stuff: "That...checks out."

Muppet Family Christmas, hands down. Sing carols with all the Muppets, exchange a Fraggle pebble with Robin and Grover, eat Janice's Christmas cookies, help Jim Henson and Sprocket with the dishes, and fall asleep on a coat hanger with Animal and Gonzo. I'd just have to be careful of the icy patch.
What's a fictional holiday party you would love to attend?

My answers:

--the Christmas party from Fanny and Alexander
--the Yule feast in Nicola Griffith's Hild
--the Baileys' "welcome home" party for Harry in It's a Wonderful Life
--the office party in Die Hard; I'm sure nothing will go wrong

Growing up means learning how to make your own magic, whether it's carrying on your childhood traditions, creating new ones, or (most likely) both. It's learning that there's a lot of labor behind the magic, and it's finding ways to hold onto the magic thru change and grief.
Because you're an adult you fucking muppet. You gotta pay the magic forward.
