And for what it's worth, I am always open to questions from other consultants from would-be and newbie consultants, to helping those who had the same feeling I did all those years ago when I first started, watching others do the job I wanted and not knowing how I could get there.

📢📣 PROUD DAD MOMENT 📣📢

Taz has come home with a coding game on his school iPad

Where he has text on screen he’s managed to voice record the text and it auto plays when it appears on screen, as he wants to “make it accessible” (his words, not mine)

IF MY 9 YEAR OLD CAN DO IT, YOU CAN

When you "make it" as an indie, it's so important to give back and support others to help keep the indie market thriving.

Love to see this from the Kinetic crew and extra cool to see Southampton gamedevs having such a positive impact on the industry 🙌
Kinetic Games, the developer behind Phasmophobia, has announced the launch of Kinetic Publishing to "support and champion creativity within the indie space". The publisher will fund two to three indie projects a year up to budgets of £1 million.

💵 MONEY for GAME? In 2026??? 💵

There have been more and more successful-game-devs-turned-game-funders popping up, so here's a lil' thread of some of the more recent ones I've seen.

Hopefully this helps you get some $$$! 🔽

Human brains feed off of negativity. Negative thoughts are easily digested and play in a loop in your mind all of the time. The reality, however, is that there is also A LOT OF GOOD happening every single minute. You have to do more work to pay attention to the good but it's worth it.

If this doesn't work, genuinely seriously ask yourself if you have ADHD and are just completely time-blind.

I know I am. It's horrible to deal with but it's helped me a lot to recognise it and figure out coping mechanisms

(even they mostly amount to "do everything as soon as humanly possible")
Game devs who say they're bad at estimating how long things take:
- Give a rough estimate
- Track how long it actually takes
- If wrong: is that the time it actually takes, or did something happen? (Life, distraction, etc)
- Revise old estimate
- Keep tabs going forward to revise as necessary

I disagree with the saying that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Because sometimes you just have to give the fly the 💩 that it wants.

Bit of a rant - looking at the local NHS ADHD services in my area only to find out that they disbanded the services that were actually helping people in 2024... And they might just try to rediagnose me because they treat out of area diagnosis the same as private (as if they're not real)

If you use tutorials and/or contextual tips in your game consider making it possible to replay these tutorials at any point and/or to access a history of past contextual tips

People often need refreshers, may have missed something, or spend time away from your game and return and need to catch up

In 2026 I wish that people would show a lot less tolerance for shitty people in this world.

Since I cannot possess your bodies and deal with it for you ... I will offer you this one trick shitty people don't want you to know.

Ask them, sincerely and heartfelt

'Are you okay?'

Reflecting on the litany of adverse childhood experiences akin to getting all the bean stamps on a coffee card that should have turned me into a broken creature but sheer force of will had other ideas.

Your traumas don't have to make you into a monster, they can be the foundations for greatness.

Just gonna say this again for games sphere cus we get the same question:

Networking doesn't mean schmoozing up to famous people, it means making friends with your peers. Then in 10 years, 20, one of you might be famous? And sure you're still helping each other cus well yeah friends.

Make. Friends.
Talking to one of these types at a con who asked how I 'got in' with so many 'famous writers' who I'd been talking to and I said "we made friends before anyone knew who we were decades ago by striking up interesting conversations and enjoying each other's company" and he kept re-asking the question.
They have come to the convention hoping to "break in" and then find themselves -- shocker! -- a "nobody in the book world." Yeah no shit! We all are! I have gently told guys like this a million times that it takes most of us *years* of hard work but they do not believe that could be true for them. +
