This is a new exhibit I hadn’t seen before, over my years of visits. If you're ever within a daytrip of Central Connecticut with kids <8, it's a must-see: Kid City in Middletown! Probably the best children’s museum I know of, and certainly one of the very best.

Down behind the lower vent opening under the caffe window, there’s a coffee grinder filled with real coffee, and when the button is pressed it grinds and wafts the smell out into the wider room (a piazza theme, with faux-marble dolphin sculptures that also have hidden qualities) … 2/

When you press the button, a woman’s voice calls to you in Italian about your coffee order. Sometimes she says she’s closed. If you persist, she relents and makes your coffee. 1/

Russia once again assured the UN that it wants peace, but bombed peaceful cities in Ukraine for 12 hours straight. Four people died in Kyiv, including a nurse and a patient at the cardiology institute. A whole street was destroyed in Petropavlivskyi Borshchagovka.

Announcing such a major change to NSF GRFP this late in the cycle is incredibly cruel. 2nd yr students (mine included) have been working so hard on their proposals despite ongoing uncertainty. They are driven and passionate about being outstanding scientists and helping those coming up behind them.

This means individuals in the following statuses at the time of application are eligible:

Undergraduate in the final (senior) year of a bachelor’s degree program
Bachelor’s degree-holder with NO enrollment in a graduate degree program (non-degree graduate coursework allowed)
Individual enrolled in a joint bachelor’s-master’s degree program with at least three undergraduate years completed
First-year graduate student in their first graduate degree program with less than one academic year completed in the degree program (according to institution’s academic calendar)
Individuals enrolled in joint bachelor’s-master’s degree programs are considered graduate students. For GRFP, joint bachelor’s-master’s degrees are defined as degrees concurrently pursued and awarded.
Not be a current NSF employee.

Applications that do not meet eligibility requirements will be returned without review as being ineligible for a fellowship.

It's said of totalitarian societies that anything that isn't compulsory is forbidden. Using the same logic, Putin is saying that anything that isn't capitulation is war. That's actually helpful because it shows European policymakers there's no area of compromise with Russia.
