Those who give up the aspiration of justice and equality because of imperfections and past (or current) corruptions give us all over to the fascist hoards of incompetence and cruelty.
I believe such dark mirror exceptionalism is deeply mistaken. We must distinguish between acknowledging traditions of racial violence and state authoritarianism on the one hand – and reducing the nation’s history to those traditions on the other.

Sort of gives away the lie that they're arresting hardened criminals who are drags on society when they're setting up traps to lure in Good Samaritans
CCTV footage appears to show DHS agents posing as people having car trouble in order to lure a target out of his house before arresting them. The target comes out and starts helping them before 3 vehicles surround the scene. The car "experiencing" trouble then drives off with them.

Not only did Trump lose the 2016 popular vote by nearly 3 million votes, once he was in office he launched a massive "voter fraud" investigation to prove that he'd *actually* won the popular vote by several million and then they didn't find a thing and quietly disbanded it.

For a couple years before Trump, my friends who would later become a part of MAGA conveyed to me their fears about the world. Their problems were real, fear palpable, and solutions nonsensical.

Part of what the authoritarian does to reaffirm their place in the hierarchy is to kiss up to those above them and shit on those below them.
This is crucial: inflicting cruelty on those weaker than them, lower than them, is how the authoritarian self-soothes, cements their place in the universe.
