"If the people of good will, both Negro and white, will not take a stand against these gestapo-like tactics, our southland will be plunged into a state of fascism the likes the world has never known.”
—MLK, speaking of police violence in Birmingham
This is what frustrated me most about Tom Nichols’ “this isn’t fascism” comments when people say something about police—not ICE—violence at protests. It’s clear that he wants us to associate fascism with ICE but he is and always has been super comfortable with a police state.

There are specific reasons Trumpists want war on Venezuela, but there‘s a generic one: they crave power to make war on anyone, any time, for completely fabricated reasons, and then to use the guise of war to increase violence and repression everywhere, including home.

They are lawless bestial scum.

After spending nine months in an Israeli prison without trial, 16-year-old Mohammed Zaber Ibrahim, a Palestinian American teenager from Florida, was released on Thursday. He was arrested in February when soldiers raided his West Bank home in the middle of the night.

Also a reminder for those who are not aware: the Nazis' first plan for their designated internal enemies was "remigration".

The Nazis quickly discovered that this is impossible, and it's much easier and simpler to just exterminate people.

That is where these ideas inevitably lead.

A reminder for those who are not aware: "remigration" is the process of deporting all non-white people from a country. It includes citizens and is, by definition, ethnic cleansing.

And to be clear: this is not fake. I just screenshot it myself.

Already, we're seeing students in creative fields who don't distinguish between *thinking* about an idea and *generating a prompt* to ask a machine to think for them, because they had a moment of indecision and wanted an instant solution. They can't see how the generated idea *isn't their own*

Using the belief that creators are the "petite bourgeoisie" to justify pirating books/stealing art is EXACTLY what makes it so hard for anyone who isn't rich to pursue their creative dreams

If you steal our art, you PERSONALLY are preventing us from building sustainable careers
Honestly, people calling creators the "petite bourgeoisie" makes me want to snap.

We're working folk. And we work really hard. For next to nothing.

We're not lounging around eating bonbons. We're trying to figure out how we're going to be able to pay rent next month.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

COLOR TASTE TEXTURE is in hundreds of libraries all over the world.

Openly autistic written books published by one of the”bigs” for a largely neurodivergent audience is rare. When books like mine are pirated, it’s sending publishers the message we aren’t worth publishing.
