Cosy Witch Book (Brutal) pages 1-4. Watch the website! Your new favourite uncomfortable romance comic😊🌙✨🔫🙍‍♂️🖤
A house built all mish-mash, by a road, at night. A car’s on the road The car’s parked in a lane by the house. It ends at a small wood. A man’s got out and he’s opened the boot Sounds at night—sounds at daybreak—sounds in daylight. They sound like this: CHK—frrr Man’s sitting on a log, all puffed out. Has a drink, wipes his face, slaps his gloves. Seems to be a shovel just behind him, maybe

Should it be “bullshat”
illusclaire.bsky.social
I think yeah, the inherent visibility struggle in that line of work will make, or just come from, “being seen” (negative) a really painful experience
illusclaire.bsky.social
😩😩😮‍💨really hard

(Non-sarcastic! Just to be clear)

There is more to you than this if you have the courage to write it

But it’s not real! She’s being cashed in on, in a way that harms the relationship between reader and word. She’s not using her potential, or her stories’. Publishing doesn’t care about writing, growth or people. It’s just a business. Creation, discernment and discipline lie apart

I wanted better FROM her. I wanted to be able to be jealous of her, so I could believe in bookish girls having their publishing dreams come true just like that, just by putting a first story onto pages. I wanted to envy something real along simple lines & say “ah, comics are just a smaller industry”

And extra-so, I suppose, because I’m part of the target audience, both in terms of shared demographic with the author who is writing for herself and in terms of having watched this woman’s channel for years and years. I understand her. In some essential sense I love her. I wanted better for her

I think it’s bad to publish mind-melting (pejorative) niceness at this time or at any. Don’t take the Turkish delight if it means selling someone out. But—it is happening now, specifically, and it’s bad training. It’s bad practice. I’m dismayed by this editorial value (?) set in action

I don’t think it’s good for these books to exist, bc I don’t think that these numbers are just people being nice, i think they’re people practicing liking things instead of paying attention. I don’t think someone could like this book without not minding things that matter and should be mentioned
illusclaire.bsky.social
They also piss me off bc I don’t like being bullshitted

I believe in pleasant literature. I know perfectly well that there is depth and change and healthful comfort in gently-written books. But not in ALL of them. It doesn’t just Happen. It takes care. I think lax books can make you lose hold of important things like “paying attention to stated truths”
illusclaire.bsky.social
Whoever just DM’d me I still can’t read those bc I don’t really want to give apps my ID… find another way…

I like this woman and I think she could write good books if someone helped her to write something real. But that is not the machine she’s caught in

They ignore it for treats. They aren’t supposed to notice, the dissonance isn’t supposed to be there. It’s a writing mistake that appears again and again because nobody helped it the result is this equation: want cosy glow? Make mind smooth, don’t see it. That is bad life training
illusclaire.bsky.social
There is not supposed to be constant dissonance. It doesn’t come to anything in the text. It’s just unchecked prose, two ideas trying to be ~in the story~ at once because they’re both cute, but they cannot coexist because they are separate scenarios. The ideal, positive reader ignores this
