I've seen a lot of "critics are just jealous that they aren't writers" posts in the last day, so this seems timely. I think of myself primarily as a novelist, but for me, there is no difference in the passion or rigour of writing prose, poetry, essays, criticism

not to vague post on main but reflecting on all my notes on the (many amazing!) SFF works that came out this year, and I do think there is a certain kind of novel that hits it big JUST because it has good politics in it, with garbage writing.

Obviously The Nipples of Grimdark would be a tale set in the hostile yet alluring Grand Teton-like mountains of Kwee'Glan (which translated out of Kweeish means "The Grim, Dark Land"), where our young hero must travel to battle the hot yet evil Queen Mam, who inevitably admires his, uhhhh, spunk
