Banff is nice.
Visitors traveling to U.S. national parks are facing a new question at the gate: Are you a United States resident?

That question is already causing longer wait times to enter parks and is leading some foreign tourists to turn away at the gates.
Immigration checks at national parks cause delays and confusion
President Donald Trump’s $100 surcharge on foreign tourists is causing long lines and delays at some national parks.

I am impeaching Secretary Kristi Noem, who is an incompetent leader and a disgrace to our democracy.

She wreaked havoc in the Chicagoland area and has brought her reign of terror to Minneapolis. One of her rogue ICE agents shot and killed an innocent woman today. It must come to an end.

I've seen a lot of "critics are just jealous that they aren't writers" posts in the last day, so this seems timely. I think of myself primarily as a novelist, but for me, there is no difference in the passion or rigour of writing prose, poetry, essays, criticism
Criticism Is Literature. Why Is It Vanishing?, by Adam Morgan
What do the best book reviews do? What is the current state of the critical ecosystem? Chicago Review of Books founder Adam Morgan takes stock of book reviewing in the US.

You know, if I reached a certain level of success and respect as an author and someone I’d never heard of wrote “this book sucks” about me on their personal blog, I would simply pay it no mind at all

Sitting in a cafe having the time of my life listening to this queer guy complain about his boyfriend because he’s too studious and works too hard and does everything for him and is too thoughtful and too sweet but doesn’t like like clubbing and won’t consider sharing a sugar daddy together.

As Aimee Cesaire put it— the price of imperialism is the empire’s own civilization.

not to vague post on main but reflecting on all my notes on the (many amazing!) SFF works that came out this year, and I do think there is a certain kind of novel that hits it big JUST because it has good politics in it, with garbage writing.

I really think it is okay to demand better than that

This is a horrendous theft of my intellectual property and @scalzi.com is will be hearing from my lawyer. The original Ghan cut of #nipplesofgrimdark will be released as a 6 hour black and white special on HBO max
Obviously The Nipples of Grimdark would be a tale set in the hostile yet alluring Grand Teton-like mountains of Kwee'Glan (which translated out of Kweeish means "The Grim, Dark Land"), where our young hero must travel to battle the hot yet evil Queen Mam, who inevitably admires his, uhhhh, spunk
