I’m so bothered by the Leavitt family story that I had to shake up how I even describe these people.

The word is “dirty.”

You want the mother of your grandson who came here as a child deported to a country where she has nothing?

You’re a fucking dirty little freak. You’re not like the rest of us.

I think we can safely say that the Leavitt's brother called ICE on his ex, the mother of his child, and I have to say: I have no desire to respect, find common ground or share the country with these monsters.
“After Ferreira was detained, Dos Santos Rodrigues said Michael Leavitt Sr. and his father, Bob Leavitt, reached out to her.”

“‘They just kept saying, ‘Tell her to self-deport,’” she recalled. “Self-deport to where? Brazil is not her home.’” www.bostonglobe.com/2025/11/26/m...
‘Brazil is not her home.’ Mother of Karoline Leavitt’s nephew, brought to US as child, detained by ICE. - The Boston Globe
Bruna Ferreira, 33, was brought to the United States as a child in 1998. She is now in removal proceedings in Louisiana.

I've never cooked a turkey simply because my Thanksgiving cooking has always been for six or fewer people but I will defend the turkey as a perfectly fine poultry and a fantastic source for the next month of pot pies, soups, and sandwiches

Don't want to involve myself in another thread but my sense of "tradition" is sort of quintessentially modernist: it's not much more than the ongoing deliberations of a given community, the whole body of which is reframed by the latest contributions and controversies

I don't think this is the only or necessary use but it's certainly what is going on with most of the people I know who use them in non-specialized or non-coding settings
I think it’s pretty clear at this point that one of the main impacts of LLMs is to disrupt thinking: to make it so that far too many people never properly learn how to do it, and then to control the output so there are thoughts that people never learn how to think.

The second 19th century is fully underway
When asked about an Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez presidency, Thiel says that he worries about there being a “woke American pope” — Leo XIV — and a “woke American president,” creating a dystopian “Caesar-Papist fusion”.

He even told JD Vance that he should keep his allegiance to Rome purely perfunctory.
NEW: JD Vance’s Top Donor Suggests Pope Leo XIV is Antichrist
In a leaked lecture, Peter Thiel says he’s urged Vance to ignore the pope on moral questions — and simply pray for him.

What we're celebrating in Christ the King is the fact that Christ is not like the Pagan Gods whose worship develops out of monarchical cults. He alone among kings does not do what the prophet warns all kings will
What has helped me is realizing that he's also the antithesis of kings like David. The trial and crucifixion, when he affirms his kingship, is a near-perfect inversion of David and Bathsheba
