it's been repeatedly proven that giving people free money is cheaper than not doing it

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:
www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employmen...
Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Read bad art. Write bad art. Critique bad art.
Here’s a statement that might be radical in 2025: ‘bad art’ is still art, not content or slop. “But what about AI?” What about it? It demands that we interrogate the definition of art itself, and therefore here is mine: art is a practice, not a product.

Art is not something we consume. Art is something we do.

Artificially-generated ‘art’ does not fall beyond the purview of our definition of art because it lacks aesthetic merit. It has nothing to do with aesthetics. AI ‘art’ is not art because it is not something that the ‘artist’ has done.

Remember how I said you should be making phone calls OFTEN to make your voice heard?

Do that. NOW. Cis people, if you consider yourself, allies prove it.

Demand your reps halt this shit. If you have a GOP representative remind them who they represent with outrage

I'll say it again, Art is communication.

"Create for yourself" really means "Create art that communicates who you are." And one sided communication feels terrible. Commenting on peoples art/creations can be scary, I get it. But COMMENT. COMMUNICATE. We want to hear it. I want to hear it.

"Create for yourself" is great and all but no one wants to feel like no one cares and you're just screaming into the void

I wanna share this amazing piece of art with y'all. This is the culmination of a 4.5-year-long D&D campaign, a mural depicting our party and main quest-giver as a gift to our DM. Kudos to @rolltanksroll.bsky.social for being my co-conspirator, and the amazing artist @jadesnapart.bsky.social! (1/4)

i dont care one bit for twitter and i wont go back, but this is really stupid whats happening here too. artists need a dedicated space to share their work free from the garbage these large companies try to enforce. art needs to be celebrated, not censored

democrats going "we had to vote for Charlie Kirk because we were scared of violent threats!" is objectively very funny to anyone online, where you regularly receive death threats for things like liking the wrong kind of pizza, or being a woman

it's so funny to see America's health insurance companies be like "look. If there's one thing we love it's denying you care. but we ran the numbers - and we cannot BELIEVE we're saying this - and it's cheaper for us to just pay for the vaccines than deal with you going to the ER."
vinguptamd.bsky.social
Regardless of the disgraceful nonsense we will likely hear from this administration in the coming days on vaccine “recommendations,” Americas healthcare insurers issued a joint statement tonight saying coverage for Covid and flu shots will remain unchanged from prior years.

Speaks for itself.

now is the time for every media personality to stand up and speak out, because what this shows is that nothing will save you

they’re coming for all of you, unless you’re a true believer your days are numbered and your bosses are eager to comply

do something you can be proud of on your way out

Not about moths or animals but I've been enjoying this book too. Has a chapter on a plant (the boquila) that mimics other plants, and the arguments about whether it's "seeing" them or not.
jadesnapart.bsky.social
I guess I feel like you're anthropomorphizing the moth populations to be intelligent in a similar way to us. I agree you can read intelligence there, but I can't read any evolution as anything other than millions of generations iterating upon itself. This goes for all organisms.
jadesnapart.bsky.social
Well with over millions if not trillions of generations, the ones that didn't look like twigs got predated on more easily. The smaller the animal, the faster genetic drift occurs. In that book I shared, there's a whole chapter describing how our own pollution can cause moth populations to drift.

It's called genetic drift
