There are two competing national journalism modes right now.

1. Politics Is Wacky Fun With No Real Outcomes Nor Consequences

2. "Why does my life suck so hard," farmer/nurse/teacher wonders
I could pluck any of a hundred different stories off the news wires on this, and you'd be hard pressed to find a single one that clearly hints at the fact this is about corruption and unchecked corporate power, much less that it's going to kill people
The Supreme Court case that could hand Trump unchecked power to fire agency heads
The court will decide if presidents can fire agency heads at will.

Like many in Madison, it's pretty shocking to see a 16% increase in my property taxes this week.

But because I am a dork, I know that this is due to WisGOPs not going along with @govevers.wisconsin.gov plan to increase state funding for schools and locals. docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/misc/lfb/bud...

It seems so painfully clear that Dems could blow this whole thing apart with just a couple weeks of sustained, disciplined messaging sowing distrust and paranoia in WH circles around 'Republicans all talk openly about how they lie and manipulate the dude who they know isn't all there anymore'
Awful: Trump just admitted in a new interview that he knows "very little" about the Honduran ex-president he pardoned. This guy trafficked a gazillion times more drugs into the US than anyone Trump has executed. Wrecks his case for the boat bombings.

There is currently a push to move to at-will public employment, based on the claim that some states did this, and the results don't seem too bad. I think a) the evidence is just not great, and b) look closely, there are states where changes resulted in discrimination and political retribution.

Something every 2026/28 Dem should commit to is investigations of any company that did deals with Trump. A kind of forward guidance to get companies to think twice in advance of what’s coming.
Fox News will applaud this but can you imagine their coverage if President Biden hatched a secret plan to take over Fox News and revamp its programming to be nicer to him
New WSJ reporting: "During a December visit to Washington, David Ellison offered assurances to Trump administration officials that if he bought Warner, he'd make sweeping changes to CNN, a common target of President Trump's ire, people familiar with the matter said..."

Folks might not know a lot of people are getting *very* upset that the materials they request are not available in the libraries/archives they're requesting from.

We're getting lots here at the Library of Virginia: requests of documents likely surfaced by large language models that *do not exist*.

Because guess who just discussed Sixteen Horsepower 6 weeks ago? podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/d...

Holy shit this back and forth between Kagan/Alito/Jackson/&the SG.

Kagan: Doesn't your logic mean a whole raft of other agencies must be invalidated?
SG: Yes, but that's not being litigated right now
Kagan: So what?
Alito: What if we just want to say "but maybe don't apply our logic elsewhere?"

The details about how the Trump Regime is murdering people keeps changing … that is generally a very bad sign.
EXCLUSIVE: Pete Hegseth ordered the U.S. military on Sept. 2 to kill all 11 people on a suspected drug-smuggling boat because they were on an internal list of military targets, the commander overseeing the operation told lawmakers, according to multiple sources.
Admiral told lawmakers everyone on alleged drug boat was on a list of military targets
Adm. Frank Bradley said U.S. intelligence had identified the 11 people on the boat and determined the military was authorized to kill them as part of Trump’s campaign against alleged drug-smuggling vessels.
