This is a good thread. 🙁
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

I tried to use it for PowerPoints (a useful-ish tool that is the bane of my existence) with similar results - baffling formatting choices and bad summaries.
What am I supposed to use it for? To summarize my emails? Too long, wrong. To write things? Too long, wrong. To plan trips? Planning is FUN and why would I outsource that? I played with it a bit six months ago, it was meh.

Also, I hate its enshittification of search results with my whole soul.

I would strongly dispute this - lots of companies were proudly anti-woke in the period between the end of the Civil War and the mid 1960's, they just used slightly different language...

glancing through this, it basically follows that path of ilan wurman's "scholarship," ignoring the actual text and legislative record in favor of the basic assertion that the plain meaning of the text *can't* be true.
24 states have filed a brief at the Supreme Court in support of the Trump administration's effort to curb birthright citizenship, suggesting that it is not correct to say the issue is "settled and beyond debate."

Tv Tropes has contributed to so many bad conversations and podcast episodes...
A) Rest in piss, the way this website tried to factor down narrative like math caused incalculable damage to media literacy for a generation
B) Enshittification is my favorite TV Trope
TV Tropes is blocking access to the site not only if you have ad blockers on but location tracking off unless you want to subscribe to their $5 a month/$25 a year subscription plan. Even people who have turned their ad blockers off are reporting the site isn’t working. This all seems like a bad idea

There's a lot of abstract talk about nazis right now and I just want to bring it back to concrete reality for a second:

Those motherfuckers tried to murder MY GRANDPARENTS.

Will the good news ever stop? Collapsing under the weight of so much good news! I'm looking forward to the dogs with bees in their mouths (and when they bark they shoot bees at you)!

An easy one: Any comics film adaptation that exists without the original creator being able to pay off their house is a moral failure
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

It's very hard to read headlines about the 'late' D'Angelo. Although he always stood as a bridge between the past and present of black rock/funk/r&b, he always felt like an artist of this moment - someone who would emerge once a decade or so to give us art that moved us.

George Floyd would have turned 52 today. 2 years ago his brother Philonise Floyd, and his sister-in-law, Keeta Floyd, joined The Real News to share their memories of a deeply beloved and loving man taken too soon, and their fight for police accountability and racial justice.
Three years later, George Floyd's family members are still fighting for justice

Here are a few - Resurrections (other than Krakoa) are mostly a bad idea, especially the big ones. Wolverine was more interesting when he was less unbeatable. The X-franchise is one of the few Marvel properties that don’t really need to have the illusion of change to have long-lasting appeal.
What's an opinion about X-Men that'll get you sent to jail? Is Jean really interesting or really boring? Should Logan have stayed dead? Do you think a certain x-mens outfit is positively horrendous even though people seem to love it?

The Brood Saga is better than Dark Phoenix imo 🤷

RIP Drew Struzan - a man whose talent and imagination etched onto so many minds throughout the last 40+ years.

His art & posters are some of the first visuals I think of when I think about cinema - an invitation to watch these stories and worlds.

A massive loss 💔

the only appropriate response will be to triple down on supporting the targeted groups rather than to do what so many people usually do which is to run away from them.
President Donald Trump's threatened crackdown on the finances and activities of liberal non-profits and groups opposed to his agenda is a multi-agency effort with top White House aide Stephen Miller playing a central role, according to officials.

From Park Hill to the Wu-Wall, the creativity and resilience of Shaolin Island built a movement that changed culture. I felt that same spirit today with local artists, faith leaders, Liberian entrepreneurs, and the legendary Chef Shaw-Nae Dixon + Mitchell “Divine” Diggs.
