@garethlpowell.bsky.social's Who Will You Save? is great collection of stories, and each one had me eager for the next. Some of my faves are "Entropic Angel", "Six Lights Off Green Scar", "Apprehension Sands", and "What Would Nicolas Cage Do?" Highly recommend and extra excited now for Jitterbug.
The cover of Gareth L. Powell's anthology, "Who Will You Save?" An astronaut standing on a hill with a green moon rising behind them reaches out to an upside down mirrored astronaut with a blue moon behind them. Between their two opposing words is a starry red sky. The author's name is in white at the top with the title at the bottom.

“Concerns over an AI bubble bursting have grown lately, with analysts recently finding that it’s 17 times the size of the dotcom-era bubble and four times bigger than the 2008 financial crisis.”

Hang onto your butts. This “correction” is gonna hurt.

The solving of "those thorny problems" is the job.

That's the writing.

The more you outsource it to the plagiarism engine the more you lose your hard-won ability.

When people ask me what I think about using AI in writing I’m going to send them this screenshot
A screenshot of a post that reads David Simon, creator of *The Wire*, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro, NPR

And then a screenshot of a conversation that goes like this:

SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

And now it's looking like we won't even be left that, so it seems their plan for us is total destitution.

"Edited to appear like" - the first media report to be clear they are not direwolves (who lived in a different ecology, and have zippo to do with conservation). This project is marketing for human cloning.

One of the world’s most important nature groups is weighing a call for a temporary ban on allowing genetically engineered plants or animals, such as canines edited to appear like extinct “dire wolves,” from being released into the wild.
These animals are extinct. This vote would make sure they stay that way in the wild.
The International Union for Conservation of Nature, a top conservation group, is weighing a moratorium on unleashing genetically modified plants or animals into the wild.

In an ideal scenario, AI and robotics would take over all the jobs people don't want to do, and they would be supported by a universal basic income. Instead, it's taking everyone's jobs, including creatives, and there's no plan for those left unemployable.

The push for AI seems very short-sighted to me.

The idea seems to be: pay <insert AI company here> and you don't have to pay wages to make your product/service.

Extrapolate that, and you get so many unemployed who can't buy your product or service. What happens to your company then?

I follow plenty of independent media channels on YT that are trying, and they actually do better than the MSM, but the right-wing media ecosystem is just way more extensive.
