My condo building hired a falconer to control pigeons and today, we had a chance for a demo and to ask questions. Here is Gizmo, munching on a turkey neck while his handler tells us all about how falconry is done. Did you know they can see a pigeon 1.5 miles away? All very cool.
Gyr + peregrine falcon, hooded. Falcon sits on hand of the trainer Falcon eats at a turkey neck

Thanks all for this. I didn’t know of her before so will need to read more.

Is there an issue with today’s recipient? There have been dubious choices in the past (hello Henry Kissinger) but today’s seemed solid.

Entirely true. I’ve already lived a decade longer than my mother did. Another aha moment: when you realize most every authority figure, from police officers and doctors and politicians, is younger than you.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Welcome Kyle. Glad to see a wider political spectrum finding a home here. The only way for real discussion imho. Scan a few feeds and you should find some good follows to get you going. Many are familiar faces from the other place…but the sane ones.

I was in the GTA and Niagara peninsula this time last year and was bedazzled by the colours and autumn culture. Roadside stands sold fresh hot apple cider and late season fruits. By this time, there were three kinds of honey from different blossoms this summer and festivals celebrated the bounty.

What an absolutely beautiful colour.

“Mental health” differences disappear when you ask about “mood” bc conservatives don’t want to use the words “mental health.”

Exactly.
They insisted they were going to meet their emissions reduction targets until greenwashing legislation kicked in, and suddenly they cried poor. No reason to believe they’ll be any different this time.

So, is Rapture Day gonna happen, or can I go back to my nice long, windows open, breeze wafting through, sounds of birds singing, early autumn nap?

A fantastic piece of writing and a riveting study of a fraudster. I have little trouble thinking the man deserves a dangerous offender designation - with a near 40 year record, he’s the exemplar of when it should be used. (The danger may be in opening the door to lesser records). Bravo Jonny.

My latest long read: Jeff Kent is a serial conman who bilks vulnerable women out of their money. He’s the first fraudster in Canadian history to be deemed a dangerous offender and locked up indefinitely.

He’s also someone who used to regularly call me from jail

Jeff Kent is a serial conman who defrauds women. Does he deserve the harshest punishment in Canadian criminal law?
Jeff Kent is a romance fraudster who bilks women out of their life savings. An Alberta judge just deemed him a dangerous offender.

It really is that clever. Many laugh-out-loud moments. The experts who keep a straight face deserve Emmys.
