Fellow authors, I love you all, but this is not Twitter. Please think about ditching that habit of repeatedly spamming the same link to your one book over and over again. Post your pets, share a photo of the flowers you saw today. Bring some Joy here with you, we all need it now more than ever.
Winona Ryder is so wholesome and adorable during her Hot Ones interview, just fantastic. 💘

Poetry will save the day

Look at art made by real people, create art yourself with no goal other than pleasure, read poetry, sing songs with others, play an instrument, paint, color, sculpt, make things that are beautifully imperfect and tainted by your humanity because it is an act of resistance
Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."

This is so sad. Her lifelong partner and spouse passed only a couple of years ago, just heartbreaking. 😞💔

Just had to handle the most dirty, disgusting, befouled laptop I've seen in YEARS. Like a thick film of oil and grime on the keyboard and screen that was so thick you could feel it under your fingertips. I immediately ran and washed my hands three times afterward. CLEAN YOUR LAPTOPS, GODDAMMIT. 😖🤢🤮

I shall never draft words in a manner that sets cursed and foul Clankers afore thy blessed and noble readers wrought from flesh and blood.
Saw a post today that advised writers to stop writing as if a human will read it and start writing for an LLM that will be summarising.

As someone who really enjoyed trying to develop a peculiar but readable authorial voice, I find this incredibly depressing.

"This was written by AI, no one really uses that word" is going to become the "This is Photoshop, I can see the pixels" from like 20 years ago.
So I'm against AI, as most of you know, if you've been paying attention. Recently, a few weeks ago, I think, 15yo got into trouble in school because a paper she submitted got flagged because the AI detector her teacher uses determined that it was AI generated. It was not.

Waiting for my bus in the new Boston South Station Bus Terminal and the muzak over the speaker system is currently a very soft, tinkling piano version of 4 Non Blondes' What's Up. I'm officially old now.

If someone called my spouse an "empty egg carton" I would immediately fall into a red haze of unthinkable violence and only become aware of the world when someone tried to take from me the bloody femur I was gnawing upon.

I'm not gonna lie, I just immediately ran to the Internet and bought a used copy of this book. I need it, I need to possess it so badly.

Just had a student come by looking to check our lost and found because he lost his Gucci wallet and I just looked up the prices for men's Gucci wallets and I'm sorry, kid, but no one's turning that wallet in. It's gone. Go spend $500 on another one.

I used to have an almost perfect 30-minute walking commute to work every day and although I take public transportation now, I miss that easy walk every day. Also, soooooo many Bean Soup Syndrome comments on this post. Cry harder, ding-dongs.
“Someone with a 1-hr car commute needs to earn 40% more to be as happy as someone with a short walk to work. On the other hand, if someone shifts from a long commute to a walk, their happiness increases as much as if they’d fallen in love.” #CityMakingMath

This right here. I watched it earlier this week and honestly one of the most entertaining fantasy flicks I've seen in AGES. Checks every box for me. Check it out!
Ever wonder what Conan directed by Sam Raimi would look like? Especially if it featured amazing practical effects and starred one of the foremost ass-kickers in the business? Then Steven Kostanski made just the flick for you. This thing was engineered in a lab for me to love it. Fucking fantastic!
