Dachte ich illustriere mal wie das aussieht wenn Autor:innen ihre Bücher pushen, wobei ich hierzu eine Hilfskraft anheuern musste weil meine beiden letzten Bücher recht klein sind und das etwas albern aussehen würde wenn ich die selbst pushte

I mean the easy and sensible way out would be simply criminalizing deepfakes the way counterfeit money is criminalized but somehow I don't see this happening :/

Crazy how we're possibly the last generations which will associate photorealistic visuals with 'evidence' - I wonder what new kinds of evidence-making this will trigger, maybe a revival of stunt journalism centred around the 'trustworthy' witness? How will photos even fit into post-slop 'realism'?

This is both fascinating & frightening. There is a demand for images that show and confirm what people already know and believe to be true, and AI slop meets that demand—with visual content that emblematically visualizes what the headlines report. One could call it synthetic hypervisualization

That TikTok account has a few fake videos of reporters getting detained. They make these videos because it’s a big story in the news. Real reporters are getting arrested. And so people are making AI videos to get engagement on TikTok.

Hab's zwar ~noch~ nicht ~ganz~ fertiggespielt aber seit Jahren eigentlich auf jeder Powerpoint drauf die irgendwas mit digitalen Bildern zu tun hat, weil's halt so ein schönes Beispiel für Raytracing usw. ist 🙈

Dass diese 'realistische' Welt mit normierten Assets von Sketchfab aufgestellt wird, passt in ein normiertes Weltbild, das solche Propaganda ebenso einschließt wie den 3D-Shooter oder die Disneyserie (Sketchfab gehören Epic Games, deren "Unreal Engine" quasi Industriestandard für 3D ist).

Die Idee wär, dass Digital Twins einen Erkenntniswert liefern oder als eine Art Interface dienen können, um auf die reale Welt zuzugreifen, aber nö: erst mal gehts darum, Leuten glaubhaft zu machen, dass die Welt so und nicht anders aussieht, & das 'realistische' digitale Bild liefert 'Objektivität'

Das zeigt wieder, wie sehr die Rede von "Digital Twins" (also möglichst identischen 3D-Modellen von möglichst allem) und die Vorstellung, dass sich irgendwann die ganze Welt perfekt als 3D-Datensatz nachmodellieren und rendern ließe, auch oder aktuell *vor allem* eine rhetorische Funktion hat

Ärgerlicherweise noch gar nix, irgendwie publiziere ich zu allem möglichem außer meinem aktuellen Forschungsschwerpunkt :p Um so Proto-Firmenstädte wird's aber schon gehen, vor allem die hier en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lowell_... und etwas zu Robert Owen, wobei zu dem vllt schon genug geschrieben wurde

Da geht's dann um alles Mögliche zwischen frühen Planstädten und geometrisierter Landaufteilung, theoretisch bau ich erst mal vor allem auf Martina Löws "Raumsoziologie" auf -> Raum als die relationale (An)Ordnung von Lebewesen und sozialen Gütern an Orten

Meine Habil hat als Arbeitsuntertitel "Gedachte und gebaute Möglichkeitsräume in der Early Republic" und da geht's drum, wie Amis in der 1ten Hälfte des 19. Jh sich eine 'verbesserte' Welt vorgestellt haben und wie sich das in bestimmten Raumordnungen niederschlug oder niederschlagen sollte

Wo so Aliens ja aber mit teils extremen Gesundheitsrisiken für alle anderen daherkommen kreuzt sich die Eigentumsfrage ja auch noch mit Problemen à la der Aufbewahrung von z.B. radioaktivem 'Abfall' (bitte nicht missverstehen dass ich außerirdische Lebensformen als Abfall einordne, nix liegt ferner)

New chapter out in this volume on Natural Disasters in the US! I wrote on early 20th century framings of disaster - specifically, the 1906 San Francisco earthquake & fires and the 1908 Messina earthquake, and how US (and northwestern European) press used both as propaganda for a 'Western' mindset
