Hey kids! Want to get those top grades at GCSE Maths? Then make sure you also study GCSE Statistics!

Plus you’ll get to learn about correlation and causation, which is always useful to know

Really like this from Michael. “But personalized learning is the wrong ideal. It’s thinking about this the wrong way. We shouldn’t be going all-in on kids learning on their own. We should be trying to figure out how to make whole-group learning even better.”

I have a new article out in the Chartered College of Teaching journal Impact, called ‘Embedding AI in education: A critique’. Here I make five main points, which I will helpfully plop in this thread for those without access or time to read it.
An image of the front page of the article with a weird distorted phot of some flowers.

Summer holidays means an excellent opportunity to do some reading. What books is everyone looking forward to reading over the summer?
(Both non-education and education suggestions welcome)

Really enjoyed yesterday’s #mathsconf38 - from quickly calculating dates in a different century to the most gorgeous surd questions, I’ve had lots to think about!
Best of all, it was great to see everyone - especially at an Ormiston School 💕.

Then “communicating maths” - pupils get grades for *how* clearly they communicate their mathematics.

No external exam, so assessment come from knowledge tests, coursework-style investigations (anyone remember T-totals?) for pattern-spotting and generalisation.
