Gracious as ever:
Defeated Wellington mayoral candidate Ray Chung, who narrowly retained his Wharangi/Onslow-Western ward seat, said his message to voters was: “This is what you’ve chosen. Live with it.” Of Andrew Little " He’s lying about something."

Secondary teachers are going on strike too.

On 23 October you can join all teachers, nurses, doctors, firefighters & support all public sector workers fighting for their profession & our children’s future

Support public good

#nzpol
PPTA - Heading: “Teachers to strike!”

underneath: “PPTA members in Secondary and Area schools have voted to take strike action in Term 4 in response to collective agreement negotiations.” On the right side a picture of a teacher holding a banner, “standing up today, so they can stand tall tomorrow”

Despite opposition to "party politics" being a major theme of the campaign, voters opted for more party politics.

The new Wellington City Council will include 5 Labour councillors and 4 Green councillors, plus Andrew Little, giving the two party "coalition" an increased governing majority - 10 out of 16 votes, compared to 8 under the previous council.

Thanks to the North Shore for having me back as your councillor. I’m proud to be the highest polling councillor on the Shore again and with the highest vote tally of any councillor in Auckland this time around.

#nzpol Local Govt voting observation. It was bucketing here today and the queue to drop off votes by car was a block long. Why can't councils do a curbside arrangement with the voting bin and witnesses under a rain cover at the curb. People could pass their vote thru the window into the box. Faster!

Luxon has always been a dud leader, marked by short term cost cutting at the expense of vision and strategy, uncaring of workers, known as a "ruthless" man, and setting up dubious deals with Middle Eastern military while feigning ignorance. His Cabinet is commensurate #nzpol
Luxon is a dud leader - and his tenure at Air NZ gave plenty of clues
Plus: Willis borrowed $12b for $14.7b of tax cuts while saying she wouldn't borrow a dollar or would resign. Mark Mitchell promised improved crime results or resignation. Both remain.

Nicola Willis promised affordable tax cuts and zero borrowings - OR she would resign.

Instead, Willis borrowed $12,000 million i.e. $12 billion & has created another $8 billion hole in the budget. She's now down $20 billion and counting #nzpol #kiwi

I know we joke about him being like David Brent but has there ever been a prime minister who was this level of comedy character? It's a fucking disgrace the media don't capitalise on it, they need to watch Alan Partridge. I just thought of Boris but I don't think he should count

There has been so much shit flying around about Luxon these last few days it's taken me this long to find out Luxon accidentally referred to Chris Hipkins as "The prime minister" in the House. Fuckin' lol #NZPol

Central issues were a reasonable council having to create a new water entity (as required by central govt's "Local Water Done Well" policy) + costs of infrastructure development driving up rates. Let's see how the nutty right manages to deal with these issues over the next 3 years ... .

Well fuck - Selwyn has elected a majority of Council with links to VFF, Act, and Trump fans. Maybe put that on the no fly list for the next three years
