Hello from the PNW. Two greyhounds, many movies, and I’m not sure what else.
Another movie this month. Absolutely unhinged in every way. I don’t even mean that in a bad way, necessarily.
“Bugonia”

Good. Grief.

What a mind trip. I don’t think Jesse Plemmons could look any greasier. I could smell that house through the screen.

What a wild ride. I loved it.

4.5/5

Really enjoyed this one! This movie had no business being so charming
1. The Baltimorons

available on AMC+ & VOD

I was always predisposed to love this one but it fucking delivered. a holiday movie shot in Baltimore and feels authentic. first feature from Jay Duplass in a decade. two leads I've never seen and now adore. story inspired by Strassner's irl rock bottom

We watched this last week and I agree. It was cute, it had glimpses into something more - something that may have been stripped from it when it was dramatically changed? I’m not sure.
#Elio has something missing like a puzzle piece that could've made me love the movie but it's still great. Characters like Glordon and Lord Glordon are clear highlights to me of the film with their relationship as well Lord Glordon being a good villain. It's a pretty fun movie

You read that right. ICE is now impersonating utility workers in order to gain access to people's homes and businesses without a warrant.

This is the very first thing I noticed too - and the director shared he grew up all over, including Latin America.
Shout out to Ugo Bienvenu for naming the lead characters in his French rainbow movie Arco and Iris, which, when put together, is just "rainbow" in Spanish.

Ugo and Felix came to Portland for a showing of Arco tonight and I am blown away by this film and these folks!
Arco was lovely! Ugo Bienvenu came to be interviewed at our screening and I really appreciated hearing about his background, process making the movie and his philosophy in making art.

When this movie opened to a handwritten baseball scoresheet, I immediately knew it was for me. I have fond memories of scoring MLB games with my dad - a practice we continue to this day if we are at a game together.
Just watched #Eephus with my dad and really loved it. One of my favorites of the year.

This movie had some really excellent moments, and a whole lot of uncomfortable ones. Go Giants! Movie #7 for the year.
Now watching.

Sixth movie of 2026 was Nobody 2 - I enjoyed it!
I thought Nobody 2 was a great, fun-ass time.

Timo Tjahjanto takes the Dad Action Movie to its apex. The vacation setting is so perfect, and sets up for some excellent setpieces.

Odenkirk is so good at this, and all the new cast members join the mix in really fun ways.

Sorry, Baby - somehow manages to feel both confined and expansive, upsetting and uplifting. It was our fifth movie this year.
first movie of 2026. as good as i'd heard.

4th movie of the year is Black Bag!
there's still time for most of you to watch this a few times before the new year

Our third movie of the year was A Nice Indian Boy - very cute! I appreciated that the family were all full humans and not just there for plot or main character reasons. Sunita Mani is always excellent
Finally got to watch A Nice Indian Boy and it is beautiful and joyful. A love story between two men and a man and his family. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Secret Mall Apartment is movie #2 - picked from a to-watch list that felt like a natural continuation of Roofman's energy.
Now watching: Secret Mall Apartment

Movie #1 for 2026 was Roofman. It had more heart than I expected, and a lot of recognizable faces. I will admit, I only know that Tatum starred, it involved him living in a Toys'R'Us, and that it was based on a true story.
I swear Roofman was marketed as a dark comedy and it turned out to be a rather slow drama. Bad marketing, decent movie.

My 2nd cousin was found, identified via dna testing. While this removes that glimmer of hope of finding him alive after the floods, closure is better than continued unknowns.

NEW: Thad Heartfield needs to find his son, Aidan. Texas Equusearch volunteers came in to help search the river. It was a frustrating mission to bring a family closure after the floods took so much away.

This makes me so angry.
New: Per FEMA evening briefing, additional 204 ppl have been deployed to TX—19 from FEMA + 185 from other agencies including National Search & Rescue Teams, HHS, ASPR, Texas A&M forest service, and law enforcement support. Few (if any) ppl on the ground to help survivors register for assistance.
"Despite Trump officially activating FEMA on Sunday, FEMA has just 86 total staff deployed at this point [to Texas], according to figures shared with staff Monday evening...In the past it would normally be in the several hundreds at this point in the disaster recovery process."
