If I were running the DNC, there would be Democratic Party sponsored food relief banks across the country right now that specifically welcomed anyone regardless of party affiliation.

Along with the food, there could be voter registration and links to runforsomething.net

Twenty participants of the July 2025 Central European History Convention in Vienna wrote blogs about what they thought about the event: what it gave, what it promises, what it didn’t. Read what they think! (There’s a little intro to the forum by Peter Becker + myself). cehc.hypotheses.org

Why doesn't the US have a general strike? Well you can point to culture or whatever but I think structure is of not immediate use here: does the US have organizations and institutions it can use to network, organize and mobilize a general strike? No.

The strongest allies are not always in your face. Often they are quietly working behind the scenes with little to no recognition.

The test of a true ally is not only what people say and do when everybody is looking but also what they say and do with few people looking.

Bad news for the EU and Ukraine: Czechia has become the third potential veto player against pro-EU and pro-Ukraine initiatives. More so than ever before.

It’s also another reason to be less optimistic about corruption control and the rule of law in Czechia, the wider region and Europe as a whole.

A friend working in—and enthusiastic about—AI asked me how kids were using it in K–12 schools now, so I asked my kids.

Kids: "Cheating."

Me: "Yeah, I figured, but have you ever had a teacher try to use it for something el—"

Kids: "No, it's for cheating. For writing papers for you."
And to be clear, Chat GPT doesn’t do this very well. A human could do it better if they cared to try.
