*EU EV sales are up 25.6% in 2025*

Receipts in thread.

More evidence that this is a self-inflicted wound
New: the arrival of ~50K migrant students from 2022-24 buoyed NYC schools after years of enrollment decline. But over the past year, as the city closed shelters + Trump took office, that pattern reversed - posing long-term challenges for many schls + the system: www.chalkbeat.org/newyork/2025...
A wave of immigration boosted enrollment at dozens of NYC schools. Now, their numbers are falling.
At dozens of schools that took in the largest shares of migrant students in recent years, enrollment fell by 11% over the past year, wiping away years of gains.

It was my first year making Thanksgiving dinner as a 22–year-old (sorta) adult and I read a recipe (Joy of Cooking, iirc) that recommended propping the turkey up *sideways* for roasting, b/c that would shield the drier white meat from the heat and cook the legs faster. *Disastrous* results.
yes, hello, I would like to place an order for everyone’s funniest stories of holiday food-related family grudges / drama / chaotic incidents / lore

I feel like we need this

Yes. As I wrote to Mike, reformers shouldn't fetishize endless triangulations towards the perceived political center—not least because that center is nothing fixed. Serious progressive reform should be presented in strenuously progressive terms about fairness, justice, and access to opportunity.

'Empirical analyses suggest that reductions in immigration bring little change to the wages of native-born workers with skills similar to those of the immigrants who would otherwise be doing the same work.'

Immigrants contribute ideas, skills, inventions, care, love, and top entertainment. Yet, "net immigration in 2025 is on track to be close to zero or even negative — more people will probably end up leaving the United States than entering for the first time in decades.

BAH GAWD THAT'S (Georg Wilhelm Friedrich) HEGEL'S MUSIC
A theory about vibes:

Human beings are deeply social creatures. Our need for a legible social order is rooted almost as deeply in our brainstem as our need for basic physical security. We need -- not want, need -- to understand who's in charge, who are allies, who are enemies, *how things work*.

Home Alone makes changes to the Die Hard formula that render it hard for me to enjoy. The McClain character should feel overawed. And in theory having Kevin be a child versus adults achieves that. But the thing is: Kevin is a god. It's not just Tom & Jerry. This is some random punks versus Anansi.

It's not a sophisticated reaction, but my response to both "quiet, piggy" and the Coast Guard okaying swastikas and nooses is a deep sadness that the compassion we're working so hard to foster in our children will not just be challenged by schoolyard bullies but by the highest levels of society.

Need a different version of this framed more like “Larry Summers Has Made a Career Out of Being Wrong. Has Accountability Finally Caught Up With Him?”
The former Harvard professor Larry Summers resigned from the university decades ago after he was criticized over statements about women. But he remained a powerful public figure. Will new revelations about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein change that?

Yeah, it registers as such a regression. Like, so many bad things about aging, but "I am an independent agent who gets up, makes choices, and can build my wants and needs into my day" is the *good* part.

Then BOOM, one virus and you're like, "Lo, I am unmanned."
being laid out by a cold as an adult is so demoralizing. like oh you’re gonna lie in bed with your little box of tissues and your little glass of orange juice? grow up

The Granny Smith is an acquired taste and I don't expect it to be universally liked.

Cosmic Crisp is like Honeycrisp but bigger, redder, and they seem like they stay crisp longer in the fridge.

There was a big marketing push out here a few years ago, which, whatever, but they are legit good.

I’m really here for any and all apple discussions. Loved when @tressiemcphd.bsky.social discussed the downfall of the honeycrisp. I guess they are just “mid” now (as the youth say).
