On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

Hot take: I get a lot of Everest content on my fyp. “No thank you” to climbing over corpses in a place called the death zone with a traffic jam of fellow hikers. IMO the triumph is not worth the tragedy that one may encounter. It’s a sacred place imo and the commercialism is too much.

This is wildly appropriate ☠️

She walked away with silver for snowboarding, but I'd give her the gold for using her voice for good.

Not only did my friend Chloe Kim represent us well on the snow, but she spoke up for unity, compassion, and inclusion at this year's Olympics. You’ve made us very proud, Chloe!

The Virginia supreme court just:

(1) agreed to take the case pertaining to Dems' gerrymander maneuver;

(2) scheduled deadlines for briefs on April 13;

(3) says the April 21 referendum can go forward in the meantime.

[So it'll rule after, presumably only if the 'yes' wins.]
🚨🚨🚨Virginia Supreme Court lays out schedule for redistricting case

Allows the April 21 referendum to go forward with early voting starting March 6

BUT seems to leave open possibility of final ruling after referendum

This goes back to very limited relief lower court granted

If acknowledging the loss of 650 Ukrainian Olympians breaks IOC rules and the IOC also systematically fails to confront Russia, the greatest abuser of international sports, shows complicity, plain, and simple.

I don’t really know what I expect in posting this, but maybe some people see it and can learn from it.

I’ll call it “lessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.”

So the confrontations, violent apprehensions, and general fear bearing down on communities like Minnesota is only the beginning of the nightmare. Behind the scenes, Orwellian anti-judicial antics thwart lawful recourse. And hidden from sight, non-citizens are tortured for being noncitizens.

Like I said when I started, I don’t know what to expect from posting this here. Maybe in hopes it galvanizes 1 of my ~5 followers.

But at the very least, thank you if you read all the way through. We must not look away.

People can have different political opinions about immigration policy. Political differences are fine, healthy for a democracy.

But if you’re okay with this, that’s not a political opinion. That is a moral failing.

These are the conditions under which the Trump regime wants to detain noncitizens indefinitely. It violates international law, the Eighth Amendment, and our own laws & regulations.

And the DOJ and DHS are willing to manipulate any law, defy any court order, to keep doing so.

Does anyone else confuse the McSweeneys? The British have a McSweeney political figure. Previously, I had only been familiar with the satirical McSweeney internet publication. Ive learned but gotta say made me confused for longer than I want to admit.

Heraskevych’s choice to forfeit the medal chance instead of give up the memorial helmet is the biggest story in Ukraine today. Everyone is heartbroken but there is a unanimous consensus that this was what had to happen rather than to give up.

We need to close down the airport in El Paso for security reasons for 10 days. No seriously. 10 full days. Trust us.

We also gained 130K jobs in January. No seriously. 130K jobs. Trust us.

The El Paso story is a perfect little slice of Trumpism. You take the combined incompetence of our Dep'ts of Transportation, Defense & Homeland Security and create a major public safety risk, shut down a major airport, alarm our neighbors that we are about attack them & shoot down a party balloon.

Yeah it is genuinely fucking scaring me the degree to which all our cultural output about nuclear war lately seems to present it as a Struggle That Humanity Will Emerge From Stronger. We honestly cannot allow that message to propagate in our fictions, because it *will* doom us. Nuclear War is not…
Threads director Mick Jackson has expressed worry over the upcoming remake’s focus on finding “hope even in the most challenging of times.”

“That one phrase worried me,” he tells Empire. “Hope is not part of nuclear war.”

Every photo from Minneapolis looks like this. Cops decked out with guns and full tac gear facing off against people in bathrobes, parkas, and sweatpants armed only with whistles and cell phones.

Yet every verified MAGA chode on X dutifully calls it a riot or violent insurrection.

BREAKING: The House passed the so-called SAVE America Act which threatens to upend our freedom to vote.

The bill could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters by requiring documents like passports or birth certificates to register to vote and forcing voter roll purges. The Senate must reject it.
