Covid was a death blow for Winnipeg’s Portage Avenue, but it looks a neighbourhood focussed rebirth is happening. A small grocery store is opening in the old Don’s Photo’s spot, a new convenience store is joining another that opened last year. All within a block of each other.

This is a Memento Mori. It’s meant to remind you that you too must die.

This is a philosopher skull, not a Nazi skull. It reminds you that you’re gonna die, but it doesn’t mean the owner is gonna actively try to murder you. 5/x

I've been living in the relatively small world of civil conflict historians, and they're very much worried about the state of our union. They're just not worried about a civil war.

So what do we call what we're living through? I get into it in this week's Inner Loop:

Are We on a Path to Civil War, or Something Else?
Experts in civil unrest don’t think a civil war is around the corner. But they’re still nervous about what happens next: “The fabric of what binds America together at this point is basically on its fi...

This is a non-story. Why do we care what some random couple thinks. It’s messed up they’re throwing people into confinement for what they say on social media. That’s enough for me. They’ll all be fine with it until they’re the ones being arrested.

My column tomorrow: Imagine if Canada Post's transition to community mailboxes in dense, mature neighbourhoods was approached as the world’s largest installation of functional public art - beautiful, locally representative objects set within the urban landscape of every Canadian city.

The main achievement of the tech industry has been increasing the flow of money from people who make or do things to people who already have more money than they could spend in a hundred lifetimes
“Average musician makes $12 a month on Spotify. The fact that they are not even able to sell a record and it’s taken from them by rich motherfuckers on streaming platforms who get paid royally by record labels,Ticketmaster, merch companies. They’re all fucking getting paid, except for the musician.”

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.
Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me

Unless they learn to call an effective offence. This team is screwed.
Osheas non-answers are beyond grating when the team sucks and he can’t articulate anything other than “we need to be better”. What the hell? He’s saying nothing at all and has no comment for fans looking for answers.
Maybe the worst win ever. What bullshit. Hogan should be fired tbh. I’m not usually for calling for people’s heads but man he doesn’t know how to call a basic game. Costing them constant.
