Good.
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

I'm excitedly keeping an eye on Bonfire's crowdfunder,

https://www.indiegogo.com/en/projects/bonfire/community

It got off to a roaring start, and has plenty of time to hit the first goal, but I would love to see us get them there and farther along their roadmap if we can.

I spent almost 30 […]

Media is reporting that #COP30 delegates are appropriately questioning Canada’s commitments to #ClimateAction.

To be clear, we can’t do nation-building, we can’t grow and diversify the Canadian economy and global relationships, and we can’t make Canada strong, if we don’t lead on #ClimateChange.

I was introduced to AI Clocks earlier today.

Realized something while watching the page refresh. A very common element of testing for dementia (literally a decaying cognitive state) is to ask the patient to draw a clock with a certain time represented. As dementia progresses, the ubiquitous […]

It's a great cosmic joke that neurodivergence both runs in families and gets diagnosed based on parent reports. I was diagnosed at 30 because a man who has eaten potatoes every day for 57 years and a woman who collects loose buttons decided I was a perfectly normal child.

This is such utter nonsense, on the level of a stoned high school drop-out insisting Jesus told him 2+2 is 3.5 level of nonsense.

You want REAL efficiency in governance? Abolish provinces, amalgamate everything below the federal order of gov't into watershed-level orders of gov't.
This is what Doug Ford thinks one of our seven new Conservation Authorities should be. For those playing along at home, there is a 1270km, 13.5 hour drive between Orillia and Thunder Bay.

This is what happens when the @kwknittersguild.bsky.social has @xandypeters.bsky.social stop in to talk to us and I didn't have any already-in-progress within arms' reach.

Now to try to pry my brain back out of the yarn bin and onto notes for tomorrow/s am mtg
Well yes it's a Tuesday, school night, and I have late assignment and meetings tomorrow and I've lost one of my several pairs of socks already on needles but casting on a pair of stranded colourwork gloves that begin with latvian braids doesn't seem that much of a probl..... WHAT???!?!

If there were actual consumer demand for generative AI garbage, companies wouldn't have to forcibly shove AI down our collective throats by stuffing it into every possible system and application. But alas, capitalism has fully morphed into a bubble-fueled playground for tech-bro psychopaths.

Why the hell can I remember stats from 20 years ago and cannot get Python syntax right having used it in at least one course per semester for the last 22 months?

Suspension of accts from Bluesky has called into question the mission and very existence of Blacksky. "If bsky can still suspend you, what's the point?"

For one usually Bluesky doesn't just suspend you. They delete all of your data AND suspend you. Moving to Blacksky prevents that. 4/11

Apropos of nothing, I would like to point out that large companies whose business model is "serve words to the public" will typically pay between US $.10 and $3.00 per word. So when you give words to a company for free, you are in fact paying them a LOT of money.

I used to use unique, obfuscated, anonymous handles, keeping safety in mind.

As I've aged out of my allotment of fucks about some stuff I got comfortable using first name, last initial. But when I'm not fast enough to sign on to something new, I have to add bits to get a unique(to system n) userid.

It was the first half of my old email from my first undergrad degree. The medsky part is because I work in medicine as a crit care RN. When I use evil twin, it’s because I’m an identical twin, and one of us had to be the evil one (and my clone is wicked kind & gentle!)
