The same universe that crafted koalas and quasars and crocus petals authored the mind reading these words.
Don't let intimate knowledge of your own life rob you of the dignity and wonder you are owed.

It's interesting because I LOVE singing with other folks, a choir is my HAPPY PLACE but I rarely *listen* to music. I'm just not really interested. I find music with lyrics too distracting to have on if I need to do anything else. If I'm not singing w others I kinda prefer silence?

Hell I mask cause I haven't been sick (literally not so much as a cold) since 2021 and I like that! Also no man has told me to smile since 2021 and I have gotten used to that.

Literally own zero yellow clothes of any sort.

This is my #1 beef about postseason coverage. We end up listening to the radio feed bc I hate the TV commentary in the post season.

Winter running gear in the PNW is weird because nowhere else do folks seem to get "I need light insulation bc it is literally 36 degrees but it is also POURING so I need entirely waterproof, also reflective because it is still pitch black at 7am. We're a special breed up here in the cold rainforest.

Hah, everytime I start to hate running I have to remember to check my shoes and they are always begging to be retired. :P

Wow that's a HUGE range. $480 makes sense if you've got a small business. $3,000 not so much!

There are waterproof/permanent fountain pen inks. There aren't a ton of them and if that is what you need fountain pens may not be the *best* tool but not using fountain pen specific ink will cause issues.

Every damn institution is like "we must make a team about how we are going to use gen AI", but "We don't" is a complete sentence and, by the way, way fucking cheaper in addition to being the ethically correct answer.
emexastris.bsky.social
You can just not use gen AI. Just don't. You've lived your entire life without it, it is in fact incredibly easy to keep not using it.

Is Quicken and Quick Books the same thing? I think a friend uses Quick Books and it seems to do well.

No longer completely off social media but I am also aware my brain would be healthier if I were and trying to figure out the best balance.

The good news for adults is it was easy to fix. I logged out of all social media, removed every distracting phone app (so it literally was just a phone and grocery ordering device) and within a week my brain was back to normal, it didn't take long but I basically have to SERIOUSLY restrict SM.

And note: it ain't just kids. It is ALL of us. I figured this out ASAP when I went back to get a 2nd Masters degree 15 years after my first. Then: no cell phone, no social media. Now: smartphone and social media and I could nto concentrate long enough to read a scholarly article.

I should mention that I appreciate this framing from a Christian. It's a fantastic example of calling out the problem without demonizing anyone who isn't the ancient equivalent of a Musk or Pinochet.

Many of us grew up in the church being taught to root for Moses, Daniel, and John the Baptist in the Bible, only to grow up and have our churches question our faith for not cheering on the Pharaohs, Nebuchadnezzars, and Herods in our world today.

🧪 Some history:

Relentless activism in the dim and distant 80s brought us developments of HIV treatments such as antiretroviral therapy i.e. Descovy.

This is a brilliant example of why we need in-your-face activism now, more than ever.

This week in 1988: 1,000+ ACT UP demonstrators shut down the FDA headquarters, demanding (and eventually winning) action on developing HIV/AIDS treatments. ACT UP's militant and creative actions always included powerful visual artwork, and paved the way for movements in the decades to come.
A photograph from the 1988 ACT UP demonstration outside the FDA. Many people are participating in a die-in on the front steps, holding mock tombstones with messages like "RIP - killed by the FDA" and "Dead from lack of drugs." A line of police officers (some with classic 80s mustaches) wearing riot helmets stands between them and the building; one cop wearing white gloves is walking through the demonstrators. Affixed to the 2nd story windows of the building is a series of posters and a large blank banner reading Silence = Death.

Meh, dish soap is fine. People are weird and gross. Grandma washed her pans, Mom did, I do. I do not SOAK them, ever. I use a chainmail to get the stuck on bits off then wipe down with a soapy rag and dry. Then reseason if needed (not every time). Easy!

pen twins! I love that little guy so much. And the ink that matches it ✨

I don't keep those other things. Once an account is closed and taken care of I tend to shred it the next year or so. So long as I have the *address* of an old lease/etc (for background stuff) then I shred those too.

I love African Violets. Accidently break off a leaf? Stick that thing in some moist potting soil and pop it in a baggie and in a couple weeks BAM new plant or four.
