I've been reading about Southeast Asian demographic history lately as part of my epidemics project, and it's kind of fascinating how some of the same issues come up there as in other regions but with no apparent recognition of that in the literature.

Huh, I didn’t know this but it turns out Roger Goodell is a Rockefeller Republican in a very literal way. (This is his dad.)

My great-grandmother had several brothers and almost all of them went by nicknames completely unrelated to their given names. Howard was Uncle Mike, Walter was Uncle Pete, Taylor was Uncle Pat, etc.
But yeah, super common for older people to be like "my dumb bible name is boring as hell, I'm one of 12 Johns in my year, so I've decided that everyone will call me Budd from now on" and people just shrugged and called them Budd and nobody has called them anything else for 50+ years since.

I suppose "know how to tell where the ball is going" is kind of a core skill in football.
I don't think Roger Goodell is personally woke in any way, shape or form. But I do think he is an able steward of a league that follows the money wherever it leads.

This Super Bowl kind of sucked as a football game (unless you're a Seahawks fan!) but the Bad Bunny Halftime Show was great. Especially combined with Kendrick Lamar's show last year it makes a powerful statement about America in striking contrast to the Trump administration's messaging.

The underlying point may have some validity, but this is a very misleading map. Among other things it implies that the Pacific Northwest was actually colonized by Spain (rather than just claimed, which is true). The actual country that colonized that area is of course Hawaii.
