Suffolk mum and CEO of St Elizabeth Hospice. Passionate about health equity and encouraging Compassionate Communities to support one another. Posting mostly personal but bit of work too, opinions are all my own.
At @hospiceuk.bsky.social conference in Liverpool today. Not an easy time for many hospices but we look forward to hearing from @skinnock.bsky.social as Minister of State for Care later about a new Modern Service Framework for palliative and end of life care.

“This change can’t come soon enough. Two in five hospices are now making cuts. Services are withering. People aren’t getting the care they need."

Do we dare to hope that this could signal the end of the postcode lottery of palliative care? Our geography includes Gt Yarmouth where access to end of life care has historically been acutely inequitable. Heading to @hospiceuk.bsky.social conference & looking forward to hearing @skinnock.bsky.social

I quit the former Twitter two years ago this week, and I am here to tell you that my online life got a lot better for having left it. In two years I've not been tempted to go back, and I haven't felt any penalty in either career or community for not being there. It's nice to be here and not there.

If you are not already following @pastpostcard.bsky.social, you are missing a treat. Here are the answers to the questions you will undoubtedly have.
Every so often it’s useful to answer some of the questions I get asked on here.

1. Yes they are.
2. Not the whole message, obviously.
3. In the garage, mainly.
4. No, it wouldn’t be practical. Sorry.
5. Purely random.

Cheers, T.

Thank you @drrachelclarke.com for amplifying your voice for our sector. Fundraising should be to enhance care & our spaces, not pay for the core specialist provision. We receive 34,000 calls a year to our 24/7 advice line: I’m not sure everyone realises the scale of what hospices are providing.

One of the reasons why Finland is the happiest country in the world is that the public broadcaster Yle sends a live feed of the first 8 weeks of a pack of puppies every fall. It’s already the fifth edition of ”Finland’s most therapeutic live feed”.

This is what I call value for my tax money

I did enjoy this read but felt naïvely surprised that Bridget’s assistants do the actual paintings (since 1961, Wikipedia tells me). I feel like an innocent abroad. @ftweekend.com

The National Audit Office has published a report on the financial sustainability of England's adult hospices, calling it a matter of "national importance".

It says the Govt lacks clarity on how its funding impacts hospices as demand for end of life care rises.

As the child of Shields parents - albeit South & not North - I feel surprisingly emotional about Sam Fender’s Mercury win. I never lived in Shields but that is our heartland and I recognise the big messy love and fierce loyalty. Well done Sam - or as my mum would’ve said: “Canny job” 🩶
