I mean, if Musk announced his plan to begin ranching frogs since the average frog weighs 50% more than a cow, you'd think that someone at the FT might pause before putting "frogs, which on average weigh 50% more than cows" in a news story.

I think it’s supercool of the authoritarian panopticon doorbell company to name themselves after the demon video that kills you in 7 days; almost as cool as the authoritarian panopticon precrime software company to name themselves after the evil demon orb that puts its users in thrall to Sauron.

I'll campaign for the Democrat who promises to seize these and give them away to, I dunno, domestic solar manufacturers or Somalian daycares or something.
ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...

Civil rights lawyer Nekima Levy Armstrong's latest brief reveals the backstory of her arrest in a footnote. Feds refused to let her self-surrender, taped her arrest at a hotel, and broke a promise not to post it on social media, she says.

The White House then digitally altered it to smear her.

Bad Bunny at the halftime show demonstrates not controversy, but the fact that this country is now a pluralistic modern nation containing vast cultural diversity, achieved through heroic effort against a flank of confederate-sympathizing bigots who are the most coddled little babies of all time.

You can be one of the most popular figures on the cultural landscape and it won't matter; if white racists don't like you, you're controversial and polarizing. White racists are meanwhile never framed as divisive or polarizing, no, they're always "concerned" or "anxious."

The degree to which legacy media starts with the premise that white racists and badly-socialized men are the default heroes of the American story is extraordinary. bsky.app/profile/jens...
We had a writer submit a cutline for Bad Bunny’s performance. Had to do a little editing - replaced ‘controversial’ with ‘Grammy award winning’, and replaced ‘polarizing’ with ‘most popular Latino rapper of all time.’

An under-appreciated piece of this story is that one of the more liberal members of Congress met with clergy to discuss ICE/DHS, and she found herself to the *right* of several faith leaders whose support for abolishing ICE was so intense that they got into a genuine spat with her over it.

Granted…
“Renee Goodman [sic], Alex Pretti – there are no words,” DeLauro said.

“You said there were no words after the murder of those two individuals,” said Rev. Jack Perkins Davidson. “I think the words are ‘Abolish ICE.’”

The federal clearance of Renee Good’s murderer—ordered either at the behest of Trump or by “working toward the Führer”—sends an unmistakable message to ICE et al, that they can murder anybody in service of Trump, and they will never be held accountable. That’s why Dems must loudly say otherwise.

The investigation into the murder of Renee Good was terminated because the findings might undermine Trump’s declaration that she had driven over an ICE officer.

If you’re tracking signs of fascism, “no research that might have findings counter to Dear Leader’s claims” is a big one.

Current state of Republican Party politics: The president posted an image of the first black president and First Lady as apes; no one at the White House will publicly say that is not appropriate; the most likely person to face consequences is the party’s sole black senator — for calling it “racist.”

This is a great observation. I hadn't been able to put my finger on this line but, yes, this is it. There are for sure prominent Dems who are to the left of Spanberger who have zero fight in them, and I'll take one Spanberger over ten of them.
VA Gov. Spanberger (moderate, was in CIA) and NYC Mayor Mamdani (left, is in DSA) both taking steps to block local law enforcement from helping ICE as it violently violates people's rights is a good example of how the relevant divide in the Dem coalition isn't center-left, it's fight-don't fight.

They modeled decency -- called the country to decency -- and the country said No.
