Six years ago, I wrote about how the media has been falling for Trump's "new tone" nonsense for five years at that point. So we're now... 11 years into the media falling for Trump's "new tone." www.mediamatters.org/donald-trump...

Pray you once more,
Is not your father grown incapable
Of reasonable affairs? Is he not stupid
With age and alt’ring rheums? Can he speak? Hear?
Know man from man? Dispute his own estate?
Lies he not bed-rid? And again does nothing
But what he did being childish?

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

I took this picture in full context because, even with most pictures of the Stone of Hope, we often see the erasure of the Mountain of Despair from which it comes.

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

Tangentially, while in the past I wouldn’t think such a thing could happen in the US, that’s no longer true. It isn’t direct state action (yet), but we’ve seen free expression quickly take a backseat to corporate interests under pressure from the Trump administration
Then: 'The National Security Law will only affect a tiny minority of people'

Now: If the cast or crew of a piece of media includes any single individual potentially linked to any kind of sensitivity for the regime, the entire film can be vanished.

Yes, immigration agents not only took Arnoldo's phone, the 10th grader had to use Find My Phone to locate it — in a vending machine for used electronics, close to an ICE detention center.

And a bonus beer! Seasick Crocodile from OKC‘s Prarie Artisan Ales! This is a seasonal sour ale spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cranberry. Almost like a fizzy Christmas punch at 6.3% and the sour bite nicely cut a bit of sweetness. You might like it even if your heart is full of unwashed socks.

Beer Advent Calendar Day 25: Out Most Popular Holiday Beer from Evil Twin Brewing! A Belgian-style ale that pours dark but not too heavy. It’s cinnamon and nutmeg here; unexpected and interesting! Rich but not overwhelming with the cinnamon balanced with warm vanilla notes. Try it! Happy holidays!

Beer Advent Calendar Day 24: The Cat Who Stole Christmas from CT’s Fat Orange Cat Brewing! A sour ale made with kiwi, guava, pineapple. It’s got a medium smooth body and finishes with a bit of acidity with the lime and sour. An interesting spectacle and if you like tropical sours it’s not bad!

Back in the earliest days of RCS I'd occasionally post screens from Japanese commercials (like, maybe ten times total). Anyway, while going through the archive I ran across these screens from some Japanese Cup Ramen commercials with James Brown that I figured are too good to not post one more time.

three pudu species not two pudus. who woulda thunk it. i was always taught two pudus good, three pudus extravagant. But our education back then was more expansive in including pudus at all.

Beer Advent Calendar Day 23: Ambrosia: Walking Into the Fog! From Abomination Brewing a DDH, double IPA. It’s juicy, creamy and extremely sweet with lots of fruit, and the coconut in the finish. It’s 9.1% ABV, but that’s well-masked by all the sugary sweetness. Interesting, but not my thing.

Beer Advent Calendar Day 22: Three Scrioges Winter Ale from Griffin Claw Brewery! A 6.5% winter ale with clove and orange peel, plus molasses and honey give it balance between the expected spice and sweeter notes. It’ll have you leaning out the window, shouting for an urchin to pick you up a few!
