Getting really tired of shitty people refusing to listen to us when we explain why these fascists keep convincing idiots to cede ground on our rights.

This is another outrageous attack on the dignity and safety of trans people — part of the ongoing campaign to eliminate them.

Also, *everyone* is less safe when a state is stripping legal ID from a scapegoat group. It’s a direct attack on trans people. It’s also precedent.
An extreme Kansas bill will invalidate the drivers license of every trans person in the state. It was passed alongside a particularly extreme bathroom bill, meaning that the implications of every trans Kansan losing legal ID overnight has largely been missed.
Kansas Bill Will Strip Driver’s Licenses from Every Trans Resident Who Changed Gender — Assigned
As Kansas passes a bathroom bill, another bill that will invalidate the driver’s license of every trans resident has been deemphasized in the coverage. Also, Trump’s Department of Education says San J...

damn good thread.

i give bethesda a lot of shit for their lack of emotional & narrative buy-in, but there's some good points here about encounters & general gameplay. i just wish they found a way to combine the two.
Been slowly studying rpgs while writing my own design/pitch doc doc for one I want to make and I noticed something about Bethesda's rpgs I dont see brought up a lot

I got extremely tired with people acting as though itch wasn't a business when this went around last time. "They have so few employees!" okay why though, & why does that mean kid gloves on non-payment?

It would be wonderful if we could just skip that part on this occasion.

@itch.io you do realize that if creators can't reliably expect to have their payments within a month to do things like, IDK, pay bills, you can't exactly expect them to stay on the platform, right

@itch.io abdicates its responsibility to communicate with its users, has restricted where you can actually try to contact them directly, and does not make any indication of making necessary changes to its system to ensure people get paid on time. People are left in the dark, and its unacceptable.

They fucked over Vintage Story, they're fucking over multiple high-earning colleagues of mine like Alyson, they fuck over their HIGHEST EARNERS repeatedly, and you're telling me I'm supposed to trust them with my cash?

The only reason we use itch for SnB is because other sites fuck us, too!

Like genuinely, seriously, I've held that they should make their share a mandatory 5-10% and use that money to make payment processing smooth as they can for like...months now. That genuinely feels like the only path forwards for them to actually gain a semblance of trust back from people.

Sure, a lot of us could use Amazon, but reach there is terrible, no bundles, no gamejams, all the features vital to making indie work visible and getting names out there? That's itch exclusive, there's no alternative like it.

Itch cannot continue operating like this and retain user trust.

Even with the most benefit of the doubt one will permit, it's unacceptable. Paranoia and distrust are the obvious outcomes of running your business this way, and I think that itch is either comfortable with, or unaware of, that fact.

They're practically a monopolizing force in indie spaces.

Does Itch WANT people to believe they are unreliable, untrustworthy, incapable of managing a business on the scale that they have, that they're a "rob-peter-to-pay-paul" scam?

Because that's the whispering you hear if you're an indie creative. We're trying to get explanations, and there are none.

Whatever changes need to be made at itch to ensure people get paid on time needed to be made fucking yesterday. It's genuinely unacceptable to see friends, colleagues, and respected artists get forced to wait weeks, months, to get money they earned.

Does itch WANT a reputation for poor business?

I’m a big fan of setting payments to go directly through to you and not get collected by them first because they can do this kind of shit to you for no good reason.
At this point I have heard enough horror stories that I genuinely think that itch.io does not actually believe that its users deserve their money on time.

People have rent to pay, coworkers to pay, contractors to pay. Indies who make money need that fucking money on time, we can't eat good vibes.
seriously considering taking down my Itch.io store as I have now been waiting a month for a payout, and I have had no response to a support email sent on Friday morning.

what use is a store that doesn’t pay you?

the primary blocker to UBI is the puritan belief that humanity is so sinful and depraved that it should not be permitted personhood unless it becomes 'civilised'

that's how liberal social policy ended up asserting that helping people would harm them but hurting people would help them

I'm like mega broke and unemployed (due to bad decisions I've made), so this is just another one of those consequences that I gotta just deal with. If I had just done exactly what I was told to do with my life, I wouldn't be in this mess... God, I'm such a loser
I thought that 2026 would see me going back to therapy. Unfortunately, my bitch-ass insurance company has decided that therapy is no longer preventative health, and I now need to pay 30% coinsurance. This means I now need to pay close to $100 a session. Fucking hell. Guess I just won't go to therapy

sickening.

video games don’t cause violence - numerous studies have shown this - but i think we largely ignore the amount of american military propaganda that go into games like COD. we forget games like “america’s army” existed for the express purpose of recruitment. games can be culpable
I am watching what is happening in Minneapolis on Ali Velshi and one of the ICE officers (off camera) literally says, “It’s like Call of Duty. Pretty cool huh?” as they shoot whatever it is they are shooting. Agents walking around, guns unholstered for no reason. This is insanity
