I think it's okay, theoretically, for cisgender people to write transgender characters.

But I think that if you're going to do it, we should assign a Transgender Commissar to you to watch every word you write, juuuuust in case.

Larian CEO says Divinity could have gen AI assets in it but only if the tools are trained on the studio's own data.

"If we use a GenAI model to create in-game assets, then it'll be trained on data we own."

People were able to force this change not by voting with their wallet but by being really annoying. Being annoying actually works.

Like I joke that Dave Filoni's Star Wars shows are "written like fanfics" in that their plots appear to be largely excuses to cram in random bits of lore and have characters he likes meet each other and maybe fight

On the last point, a lot of fanfics really are just "fanservice" - entirely self-referential and serving little purpose beyond offering an opportunity to keep playing with the dolls created by a story

This is usually what someone means when they say something was "written like a fanfic"

Most of the disdain towards fanfiction falls into a few categories:

- Hating it because it's what girls do (which is just misogyny)
- Disapproving of people wedding themselves to established brands instead of creating their own works
- Disapproval of self-referential works

I don't have anything against fanfiction, necessarily, but playing around with the dolls handed to you by some other piece of fiction isn't really comparable to a new take on a canon, especially because of the deferential attitude towards the work in question demanded by copyright

I think equating modern fanfiction with historical works that draw from an established canon is pretty fundamentally dishonest, particularly in the way that no one *owns* the concepts that works like Dante's Inferno are drawing from
I actually had a discussion about this yesterday. The hate for fanfiction has 4 components:

1) It directly defies capitalism. Capitalism tells us that only things that are profitable are of worth. Most fanfic is free and so people equate free to bad. 🧵 #fanfiction

the right wing is activated and happy to jump on any indication of support for lgbt rights from people, politicians, and organizations, so journalists and politicians have become reluctant to mention lgbt people and our rights unless necessary

there are words for this: cowardly. craven. spineless.

Editorial in the National Catholic Reporter: "The vice president's comments justifying the death of Renee Good are a moral stain on the collective witness of our Catholic faith. His repeated attempts to blame Good for her own death are fundamentally incompatible with the Gospel."

The way that people have memory-holed that Abolish the Police was the actual radical demand in 2020 and Defund the Police was incrementalist reformism to help get there is extremely depressing

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed

What needs to be added to this is that ICE blocked a physician from having access to the dead or dying body of Renee Good for FIFTEEN MINUTES after she was shot. That, in and of itself may well have constituted murder. The media will gloss over this. Do not let them.
The big difference with the murder of Renee Good is that different videos of it happening are available which clearly show what happened. This means that the first people on trial are journalists and media editors.

The editorialising will attempt to portray a misleading version…
