Do I need to say views my own because they are my own
I take ONE NIGHT where I'm not paying attention to the news omfg
WTAF?!

I don’t want to pay for this. I don’t want to contribute to climate change. We don’t need LNG. We need more renewables and battery storage.

This makes me so mad, I cannot describe how stupid & short sighted it is because I will just end up rage-ranting.

I’ve just renamed my newsletter to @wellyclimatenerd.net and I’ve been messing with ghost settings and.. oh no. I’m feeling the call to overthrow my web infrastructure so I can have a slightly prettier layout…

When the ghouls say we need to grow the economy before we can afford the basics for our people, remember that our economy has made our households - on AVERAGE - amongst the richest in the world. Our issue is not the size of the pie, it's the size of the slice that goes to the rentiers.

I'm OIAing more frequently for @threesixtysix.news but it feels like a waste to have that information exclusively for an article or a tiktok (take parking capacity for example)

SO I'm making an OIA page on my website where I'll put up information as I get it. threesixtysix.news/tag/oia/

It’s astounding how much consultation was done with LGWM when Wellingtonians just wanted and still want trams. Somehow a highway will have “spades in the ground” within three years, but light rail was going to take 25 years

I’m sure this will be entirely positive and not at all bad for climate change while the nation grieves after a climate disaster

A fraction of this would actually fix our quite fucked rail network, upgrade our passenger and freight ports, and massively reduce the number of trucks on NZ roads - reducing the need to repair and replace them. Hell, we could even throw in some transit to city for all our international airports.
The Government’s transport plans for the coming 20 years will cost more than a quarter of a trillion dollars, the Transport Ministry says.

I’ll almost certainly make a TikTok about this over the weekend. This is what a pretty easy blend of climate and weather forecasts can look like. It isn’t that hard
♨️ Australian Heat Wave

A 'severe' to 'extreme' heat wave is underway, with highs of 41–46.7°C (106–116°F) — running 15–16°C (27–29°F) above average for early-mid January.

Human-caused climate change is making dangerous heat like this not only more likely but more intense.

Rates have been going up too much because we underfunded replacing assets!

Good news though, we found a way to stop rates going up so much

It’s underfunding the replacement of *different* assets

By choosing to no longer decarbonise, NZ is choosing to be poorer. Continued fossil fuel dependency means forever volatile import costs, increased public health burden, and international market risk. Economically stoopid.

Some outlets will report this as an unqualified disaster, rather than something complex with benefits for first home buyers. I so hope this means more creative, wacky and fun to be around people can afford to buy in Wellington. Let’s keep apartments cheap!

Like I told the council this morning, what will a review tell us? It’ll say this is still value for money - more than a second mount vic tunnel that’s for sure. It’s still good for the climate. Even if the price is higher. I’d much rather grow our city than be the last person of my age left here.
Another 6 month review will not deliver the Golden Mile, just like the reviews before it. This city is stuck in managed decline and we desperately need to build our way out of it
