Today feels like a good day for a new introductory post. My name's Kevin, I'm an artist and zine-maker from the PNW.

My other hobbies include soccer, video games and depression. My future apologies for all the political skeets.
An ink and marker drawing of Wolverine (Laura) with one of her sets of claws popped, saying "No, you move". A watercolor sketch of the Marvel Comics character Man-Thing An ink and marker sketch of the Transformer Slipstream. A picture of my desk with a bunch of pages from my X-Men/Friends mashup zine.

Crapping on adults who enjoy reading YA books or middle grade books or genre books or pretty much any kind of book that they like reading is so freaking lame.

Shaming people for what they read is dumb.

Life is short. Read what you enjoy reading. It's not a competition.

X-Men Tarot continues with Storm as the High Priestess.
Digital painting of Storm of the X-Men as the High Priestess from the Rider Waite Tarot deck. She is a Black woman with dark brown skin and white hair, and she is wearing a white bodysuit with gold trim. She sits between a black and a white pillar while holding a staff and looking at the viewer. A black leather vest with a knife stabbed through it lies on the ground at her feet.

My friends! If you're like me and you're interested in physical media and dumb things like video compression, you have to watch this new video from @techconnectify.bsky.social
Some DVD re-releases got cheapened out in a weird way (or may not even be legit!)

If I had known how expensive Dreamcast games were gonna get I would have bought a ton of them in 2002 when everything was in closeout bins.

I can't for the life of me find pictures of it, but this reminds me of when Rob Liefeld spent a butt load of money on a real life Youngblood space ship and BadRock costume for conventions.

As the Kraken start the 2025-2026 season, let's remember this last summer when Bouy was almost killed by a bear.

Happy Lief Erikson day, cause fuck Columbus.

I used to wash my car in the shadow of this big ass Erikson statue. It's how I would tell people which dock I lived on, just had to look for the Lief Erikson statue in the parking lot.

Hey we got a new Bill Buckner, that's fun.

Absolutely brutal way for the Phillies to lose, Dodgers win the series

And since Bluesky is weird about threads, I did a second smaller thread about rare/notable video game stuff I own.
kevinnewburn.bsky.social
The thread is getting too long. Here's my Atari light-sixer. This is essentially the first major revision of the original VCS. 1979, I think is when these came out. Called a light sixer because it had six switches on the front and the bottom shell is thinner and lighter than the first VCSs.

If you missed this last night, I did a fun thread about rare/notable video game crap I own.

1 like = something notable from my gaming collection.

If I wrote an article about how Johnny Cash seemed uncool I would just look at what I wrote and then walk into jail or the sun, maybe both.

Also, I once sat behind Brandi Kruse at a mariners game, she smelled strongly of cigarettes and left in the 7th inning.
ericacbarnett.bsky.social
Brandi Kruse, who was once a local FOX reporter, was at the Trump Fan Club meeting, made a cutesy remark about how attractive she, Brandi, is, and Trump drooled something back.

Then she trashed the actual reporters in the room.

Trump, 79, Makes Creepy Remark to Fan Girl Reporter
The exchange capped off a bizarre roundtable in which Trump invited guests to air their grievances about Antifa and the mainstream media.

kevinnewburn.bsky.social
Kruse left "mainstream media" to start her own dumb ass podcast, when she failed to get traction in the "anti-trump but still conservative" market she just leaned into being full MAGA. She has no principles and reports everything through the most fucked up right wing lens and pretends its truth.
kevinnewburn.bsky.social
Brandi Kruse is so full of shit. Listen, I'm way to plugged into talk radio in Seattle and one of her big breaks were segments on the Dori Monson show, a total right wing loon, who pretended to be libertarian, but absolutely slobbed Trump's knob. She has never not been right wing.

Brandi Kruse at today's "antifa violence roundtable" at the White House: "This is one of the reasons I recovered from it. By the way, it’s much better to not have TDS. I’m happier, healthier, more successful. I even think I got a little more attractive after I got rid of my Trump Derangement System"

Since we’re on a #GIJoe kick this week, it’s time to remind you that the #80s VHS tapes featured original comic art!

I don't hate this. In fact the more I look at it, I think I really like it.

I’ve never seen this before! An *inward-indicating* word-balloon tail (that’s the speaker’s right arm descending below the word balloon).

FASCINATING! Does this tail technique have a name? Have folks seen it used elsewhere?? I have so many questions!!! (From HIRAYASUMI, book 3, pg 37)

Yeah, I think a lot of filmmakers take world building too far these days. Sometimes you just need a quick "dragons are real in this movie" and away you go.

Probably has something to do with older movies being limited with their special effects and overall budgets.

listen, hospitals are just going to have to shift from a sustainable model where they provide care to an unsustainable model where they close - if they can't accept that, they should close

SCARBOROUGH: The Nebraska Rural Health Association says at least 6 rural hospitals would have to close bc of the big beautiful bill

FLOOD: Here's the deal: Some hospitals that are rural hospitals are going to eventually have to transition from being acute bed hospitals into being an ER model

Iron Eagle is a great one, I was also thinking about Con Air and Broken Arrow.
mattp3000.bsky.social
I think studios have killed the mid-level film because they don't return enough on the investment (as far as late-stage capitalism goes) and streaming services mean the movies that would have served that role aren't omnipresent like TBS running Iron Eagle roughly once a day.
kevinnewburn.bsky.social
Now Cherry 2000, that's a true classic!!
kevinnewburn.bsky.social
God, Jason Momoa is really good in that. It's pure slop, but like you can tell he's putting his whole ass into it.
