form follows function and this thing's function is to be hideous
As any architect knows, there’s nothing worse than a nightmare client.

Google at its peak was basically the best information retrieval system in human history and they and every competitor decided going from there to “you didn’t want answers you wanted half-assed auto-complete 80%-wrong hallucinations” in a few years was the right idea

this is great. is the goal to force home depot to intervene on all these raids? love it
In Monrovia, California, protesters are purchasing 17¢ ICE scrapers from Home Depot and immediately returning them to create long lines and slow down the entire store. Their aim is to disrupt sales and convey a message opposing ICE raids occurring in their neighborhood.

We don’t need to reform ICE.
We don’t need alternatives to ICE.
We don’t need to engage in dishonest debates wondering what the U.S. would do without ICE.

ICE isn’t even 23 years old. Most adults know a world without ICE. And the billions used to fund ICE can be used to meet people’s basic needs.

I had two goals for 2025: 1) Read 50 books and 2) Don’t talk about it; be about it. In my newsletter today, I wrote about what Being About It looked like for me this year, including these cold weather packs I assembled today! substack.com/home/post/p-...

i agree wholeheartedly, we can expand our minds with reading fiction & i'm actually reading this book rn. also agree that our captains of industry don't seem to avail themselves of this concept and/or have some reading comprehension issues. as evidenced by all the "Torment Nexus" company names.
My friend @erikaswyler.bsky.social is not an AI engineer, but she is a smart and thoughtful person, and I think her latest novel “We Lived on the Horizon” has a lovely vision of AI that frankly I wish tech bros would read except I don’t think tech bros read

when @helldrip.bsky.social & i moved to the bay in 2015, we were instant "Check Please! Bay Area" fans. Leslie Sbrocco is an absolute treasure!
"The only people impacted more than the guests, of course, are the restaurants. Over the years, Sbrocco has heard incredible stories about what the TV spotlight has done for restaurants, like increasing business enough to fund a liquor license, build a parklet or even expand." (via @sfgate.com)
She's one of the Bay Area's favorite TV hosts. 5 years of hell won't stop her.
"She was like a welcoming hug for everyone who was on the show."

that batch of emails was released by the GOP faction of the House Oversight Committee. but who am i telling, Bluesky??
CBS is the network that paid Trump $16m. CBS is the network owned by the Ellisons. CBS is the network that failed to push back in its 60 Minutes interview of Trump.

Of course, CBS is asking questions like this to House Democrats.
Margaret Brennan to Tom Suozzi: "Can you explain the focus this past week in the House by Democrats on the Jeffrey Epstein files? Is this a tactic to distract from the failure to extract healthcare changes?"

yes, totally. my takeaway when i first saw it was like oh some asshole talking to his asshole brother about a couple assholes they know
what gets me is libs are really insistent that it’s true when all context and reasoning points toward a brother teasing his brother and talking shit about a guy he hates, and in that insistence of realness is a glee in the patently homophobic root of the claim.
hey I think maybe someone needs to say out loud that actually sucking another man’s dick is literally fine whereas raping children is instant death, like are we maybe not doing this one *just right*?

like every example use case can be summed up as the dumbing down of some information, so yeah this checks out
MIT recently completed the first brain-scan study on #ChatGPT users—and the results are deeply revealing.
Rather than boosting brain function, prolonged #AI use may be dulling it. #science #MIT #brainscience #sciencesky

i'd love to read a real evolution of "stay woke" - i saw it evolve as:
1. in black culture, a way of pointing out structural racism
2. on black twitter, same thing but often a joke about something silly
3. white people adopt woke to mean generic antiracism
4. conservatives learn a new n-word
“woke” as i recall originated as a kind of ironic conspiratorial posting thing on black twitter (“stay woke”), and then conservatives decided it was just “political correctness” in the millennial era bsky.app/profile/unst...
I think many of them thought woke is just like clinton-era "political correctness" when the latter was imposed from the top by imbeciles who didn't know anything about anything and woke has always been a genuinely grassroots initiative
