if you have an actually good local game store they will give you reasonable prices. and probably buy in bulk and handle the sales of course. if you want the most value individual sales online is best, but selling and mailing cards online is kind of hard and time consuming.

In equestrianism, it's common to check a horse's health by looking at its teeth. Since riding horses isn't common anymore, I guess the equivalent now would be "kick a gift car's tires." You should do it anyway to gauge how useful it will be, but not with the gifter around.
