Forgot to post this when I got my December issue! Big thank you to @albertaviews.bsky.social for publishing my poem 'Disturbing the Peace' from my debut poetry collection Confirm Humanity (details here: wildskiespress.com/our-books/#c...)
A block of text baground in pink in a white magazine. It reads Disturbing the Peace by Kim Mannix It's hard to keep your muscles loose, your teeth unclenched. Hard to hear the news over and over -- insert city, number of dead here. Painting layer after layer of rage on top of you. It's a wonder you're not shellacked I place, fist up, mouth open, mid-anger shriek. How do you stay soft? How do you keep from popping your Ps on impossible words like prayer, peace, protection? How do you say you're a pacifist and mean it? It used to be so easy. Remember raising two fingers, like you saw the long-haired rock stars do on the covers of your dad's records? There's a plaque you still have in your living room, PEACE, LIKE CHARITY, BEGINS AT HOME. You've believed it for a long time. But lately you worry it ends there too. Praise, to all the brave souls who still turn on the TV, refresh the newsfeed, open the front door, wave to a neighbour -- their bodies as supple as a yogi's. Belief cushioning their red, red hearts.

Actually understanding how LLMs/genAI works must be a disqualifying attribute for this job.

Because, again, it does not think. It's a complex set of probabilities spitting out glamorized predictive text. It can never be sentient.

I've said this many times. Art is the process, a struggle undertaken by humans, not the end result and it's why AI can never create art (that and it's a planet killing theft machine)

This is a lovely example of that.

Temperatures are going to drop to close to -40 overnight. If you're somewhere warm you should not take that for granted. There are so many people who don't have somewhere safe and warm to go. Bissell helps them survive in this harsh weather.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
