Good morning! I spent most of the past couple days devouring this book, In Memoriam by Alice Winn. Two friends enthusiastically recommended it so I moved it to the top of my TBR. I want to stop strangers on the street and tell them about it: English schoolboys in love and WWI. Like Song of Achilles.

Seen on tonight's cholesterol walk. It looks like Santa's cheering that the reindeer is trampling the penguin?!

It's been slow at the feeder cam, but this morning when I went out to refill the seed, I found a female cardinal waiting, then this chickadee hopping around chirping at me, and later a junco. This was the only one the camera caught, and strangely couldn't ID it though even I can. #Birds

Baby Blahaj with my #FridayReads Memories by Teffi with #NYRBwomen25 and In Memoriam by Alice Winn, which a friend recommended, and is reminding me strongly and happily/sadly of Pat Barker's Regeneration, with my old book group of sainted memory.

Chapter 3, with the increasingly unhinged Gooskin, and the cape-like beaver coat, the three shots that everyone ignores, the hand with the ruby ring--it all reads like horror. #NYRBwomen25

IMMA FUFUFA
Does that mean you will soon transform into a beautiful buttershark?

(I looked for "shark caterpillar" images and discovered that not only is there a shark caterpillar fidget toy, but also: one of the Chinese shell company resellers is called Fufufa. FUFUFA! I will be saying this all day. Fufufa.)

I've spent the last three weeks wrestling with Wake Up Dead Man. Here are some of my thoughts—I have many more.

I am wildly grateful to talk about art that deals seriously with the world we've created, and somehow still holds on to hope.

What Rob Reiner movie did you watch tonight? I picked The Sure Thing, a Christmas movie, and watched it with my late teens and twenty something who are the age I was when I first started watching and loving this movie. Cusack and Zuniga are just so good.

Final thought on Mitford's The Sun King: I leave this book without a good sense of who Louis XIV was, other than a serial womanizer who respected/feared religion and medicine, and loved building Versailles. The women around him were portrayed w more detail, I thought. #NYRBwomen25

Even though I feel like I wasnt in the right headspace for this book, I did enjoy reading it. I wished for some family trees and a character list, and would recommend making one from the start. Loved the wild things Mitford wrote, like "Mlle de Choin, fatter and squashier than ever" #NYRBwomen25

Stayed up late to finish Mitford's The Sun King but realized today I didn't remember details so re-read ch 20. This was a bad match of book and time of year for me. No way was I patient and attentive enough to follow the serpentine machinations of all these people with multiple names #NYRBWomen25

I've lost track of all these people, and they're always poisoning or sleeping with one another, and not one of them seems happy. So much drama. #NYRBwomen25

Hey it's #LetterboxdFriday and my #LastFourWatched had some great stuff, but I think I need to add some movies by and with and about and for women and NB folk. This was a very dude-centric week, and all movies failed the low bar of the Bechdel test.
